Por FactBox Admin

The General Directorate of Industry, Energy and Mines of the Regional Government of Extremadura has granted Data Riocaya, SLU the prior administrative authorization for the facilities corresponding to the project “Electrical consumption infrastructures of the Nostrum Evergreen Data Center (DC Badajoz)”, in the municipality of Badajoz. The resolution, signed on August 26, 2026, by the general director Raquel Pastor López, is published in the Official Gazette of Extremadura (DOE) No. 173, dated September 7, 2026, with reference 2026062239 and file 06/AT-2025/26906.

The project was declared a Business Project of Regional Interest by means of Decree 151/2025, of November 11, published in DOE No. 221, dated November 17, 2025. This classification entails the declaration of public utility or social interest and the urgency of the occupation of the assets affected by the installation of the 220 kV field of the link substation and the underground routing of the 220 kV supply line cables, for the purposes of the Compulsory Expropriation Law.

A sustainable computing and artificial intelligence center

The company, headquartered at Avenida de España, 18, Cáceres, submitted its application on December 23, 2025, for the implementation of a sustainable data computing and artificial intelligence center. The facilities whose processing corresponds to the Autonomous Community already have the recognition of public utility, therefore they only required the granting of the prior administrative authorization.

During the processing, the public information of the project was carried out, published in the DOE on March 13, 2026, and no objections were presented. The company accepted the conditions of the affected Public Administrations and public service companies.

The authorized facilities

The authorization comprises three blocks of electrical infrastructure:

  • 400/220 kV link substation, with a 220 kV double busbar yard, eight transformation positions, two main busbars, two disconnecting positions and two busbar coupling positions, and four high-voltage underground line exit positions.
  • 220 kV supply line, with two high-voltage underground lines with Voltalene RHE-RA+2OL 127/220 (245) kV conductor, with lengths of 3,342.74 and 3,276.91 meters respectively.
  • DC Badajoz 220/20 kV electrical substation, with a 220 kV double busbar yard, six transformation positions, six 220/20/20 kV power transformers of 110/150 MVA, and additional positions to be equipped in the future.

The site is located in the logistics platform, postal code 06006, in the municipality of Badajoz.

Conditions and scope of the authorization

Authorization is granted under certain conditions: the company must comply with Law 24/2013, of December 26, on the Electricity Sector, and the conditions of the environmental body; adhere to the submitted project, such that any modification will require a new authorization; and respect the conditions set by the affected Administrations and entities. The resolution is issued without prejudice to the municipal licenses and permits or those of other bodies necessary for the works.

Failure to comply with the conditions or the inaccurate declaration of data may lead to the revocation of the authorization, following the initiation of the corresponding procedure.

A technological boost for the region

The authorization clears the way for the construction of the electrical infrastructures for one of the largest technological projects planned in Extremadura, oriented towards data computing and artificial intelligence. As it is a Business Project of Regional Interest, the initiative benefits from an accelerated administrative framework and a declaration of public utility, which reinforces its viability and its potential to generate investment and employment in the region.
