Andoni Iturbe Amorebieta, Deputy Minister of Culture, signed the Resolution of September 25, 2026, which publishes the complete list of grants awarded for cultural creation. The Resolution was published in issue 196 of the Official Gazette of the Basque Country on October 14, 2026, and includes 66 beneficiary projects, with a total amount of 655,650 euros. The official reference is 2026/4263.

The grants are regulated and called for by the Order of March 17, 2026, issued by the First Vice President of the Government and Minister of Culture and Language Policy, which was published in the same gazette on April 8, 2026. Article 11.1 of the Order stipulates that the deputy minister’s resolution must be published in the official gazette, without forgetting that individual notification must be made to the beneficiaries. The purpose of the call is to promote artistic creation across various disciplines.

Eight modalities and 66 beneficiary projects

The annex of the Resolution distinguishes eight modalities, listing the accepted and rejected applications for each:

  • B) Cinema scripts (KS2): 12 projects, 13,000 euros each, totaling 156,000 euros.
  • C) Music compositions (KS3): 12 projects, 68,900 euros in total, with grants between 4,000 and 9,500 euros.

Well-known names among the beneficiaries

In the theater texts modality, among others, are Adriana Laespada Lazpita (Casta Diva), Braulio Cortes Diaz (Venas Negras), Graciela Izar Doniz Roman (Dardara egiten duen hori), Iñaki Cid Larrea (Gure Errautsak), Leyre Ucha Marquiegui (Nor da nor?) and Maialen Diaz Urriza (Apolo, edo izan zitekeenaren istorioa).

Among the cinema scripts, Beatriz Iso Soto (Las tejas de Red Bay), Elene Mengyu Larrinaga Bilbao (Haziak), Estibaliz Villa Gonzalez (Zuloak), Ibai Ariztegi Ziaran (Amazig) and Jorge Gil Munarriz (Korrika!) appear. In music, meanwhile, some of the beneficiaries are Jon Esnaola Agirre (Zurrumurru), Zuriñe Fernandez Guerenabarrena (Septeto), Isabel Urrutia Rasines (Izaerak) and Gabriel Erkoreka Graña (Crystals).

In Basque literature, Aintzane Usandizaga Lopez (Esadazu gezurra), Ane Labaka Mayoz (Itzuri), Beñat Sarasola Santamaria (Zaharberritzea), Miren Jasone Osoro Igartua (Maitasun istorio bat) and Nerea Loiola Pikaza (Zergatik hil zuten Joel Eguren?) stand out. Rejected and archived applications

The resolution also includes a list of rejected applications, along with the reason. The most common are insufficient scoring and failure to achieve the minimum score in the first evaluation phase; in some cases, failure to comply with the principle of anonymity or failure to present the required documentation.

  • In theater, Aitziber Garmendia Mendizabal, Leire Bilbao Barruetabeña and Amaia Bono Jimenez were not included among the beneficiaries.
  • In cinema, names such as Jon Garaño Arzallus, Aitor Arregi Galdós, Estibaliz Urresola Solaguren and Julio Medem Lafont appear among those rejected.
  • In music, the projects of Ramon Lazkano Ortega and Mikel Uresandi Arive did not comply with the anonymity rule or the minimum score.
  • In Basque narrative, Karmele Mitxelena Etxebeste, Mikel Pagadizabal Amiano and Garazi Albizua Castelao were not selected.
  • Among the archived applications are Aurora Freire De Miguel (Patria: Cardo, duplicated), Goiatz Labandibar Arbelaitz (M. Rosenberg) and Javier De Isusi Garcia (El año en que fuimos Reyes II).

Publication and consequences

The second point of the resolution orders the text to be published in the official gazette for general knowledge. Beneficiaries will receive individual notification, and the grants will be implemented according to the conditions established in the Order of March 17, 2026.

For the cultural sector, this publication reveals the full result of the call: 66 projects will be funded, which has a direct impact on theater, cinema, music, literature, dance, and illustration. Likewise, the hundreds of rejected applications show that the call had a high competition rate, highlighting the need for more resources.
