EU corrects appointment date of European political parties Authority director
Por FactBox Admin

The European Parliament, the Council and the Commission have corrected the date of adoption of the decision appointing the Director of the Authority for European political parties and European political foundations. The corrigendum, published in the Official Journal of the European Union (L series, reference 2026/90712, dated 25 August 2026), changes the date of the act from 21 July to 24 July 2026.
The correction applies to Decision (EU, Euratom) 2026/1898, which was originally published in the Official Journal on 31 July 2026. The act appoints the Director of the Authority, the EU body responsible for registering and supervising European political parties and their affiliated political foundations.
What the corrigendum changes
The correction affects two points of the original decision:
- On page 1, the title is amended so that the act is described as the decision of the three institutions “of 24 July 2026” instead of “of 21 July 2026”.
- On page 2, the place and date of adoption is corrected from “Done at Brussels, 21 July 2026” to “Done at Brussels, 24 July 2026”.
No other element of the decision is altered. The corrigendum is a formal rectification of the record, leaving the substance of the appointment unchanged.
Legal context
The decision was adopted jointly by the three institutions under the EU legal framework governing the Authority for European political parties and European political foundations, which oversees the registration, funding and compliance of European-level political parties and foundations. The appointment of its Director is a key step in the functioning of that body.
The corrigendum is identified by the ELI reference http://data.europa.eu/eli/dec/2026/1898/corrigendum/2026-08-25/oj, confirming it as the official correction to the earlier act.
Why it matters
Although the change is purely formal, it ensures the official record accurately reflects the date on which the appointment decision was actually adopted. For readers and institutions relying on the Official Journal as the authoritative source, the correction removes any ambiguity about the legal date of the act, which can matter for the entry into force and the calculation of any related deadlines.
