Erasmus+ allocates 1.3 million to the mobility of university students from Madrid

The Community of Madrid, through the Department of Education, Science and Universities, has approved the direct granting of additional aid from the Erasmus+ KA131 mobility program to four public universities in Madrid for a combined total of 1,325,603 euros. The agreements, signed between June 30 and July 20, 2026, are published in the Official Gazette of the Community of Madrid (BOCM) number 200, dated August 22, 2026, in the Announcements section.

The grants are intended for students who, already being beneficiaries of an Erasmus+ scholarship, face economic difficulties in covering the costs of their stay at a university or during internships in a foreign country during the 2026-2027 academic year. The program aligns with Regulation (EU) 2021/817 of the European Parliament and of the Council, of May 20, 2021, which establishes Erasmus+ for the 2021-2027 multiannual financial framework.

Four universities, four agreements

Each agreement is signed between the counselor Mercedes Zarzalejo Carbajo and the rector of the beneficiary university, following the authorization of the Governing Council in its session on June 10, 2026. The amounts are distributed as follows:

• Autonomous University of Madrid (UAM): 212,824 euros, agreement of June 30, 2026 (p. 14).
• Rey Juan Carlos University (URJC): 385,630 euros, agreement of July 2, 2026 (p. 21).
• University of Alcalá (UAH): 218,736 euros, agreement of July 17, 2026 (p. 44).
• Carlos III University of Madrid (UC3M): 508,413 euros, agreement of July 20, 2026 (p. 51).

The grant is awarded directly and exceptionally for reasons of social interest, under article 4.5.c) of Law 2/1995, of March 8, on Grants of the Community of Madrid. The grant is listed in the Strategic Grant Plan approved by Order 4099/2024, of September 20.

Requirements and grant amounts

Beneficiaries must be enrolled in an official Undergraduate, Master’s, or Doctoral degree at the corresponding university during the 2026-2027 academic year and prove sufficient knowledge of the language of the destination country. The aid supplements tuition fees, transport, residence, or other costs derived from mobility, under the same terms as European Union grants.

Monthly amounts are set according to the cost of living in the destination country:

• Group 1 (highest living costs): 200 euros per month.
• Group 2 (medium living costs): 175 euros per month.
• Group 3 (lowest living costs): 150 euros per month.

If the amount proves insufficient, applications will be ranked according to the scoring criteria of each university, assessing academic performance, personal or family vulnerability, or status as a victim of gender-based violence.

A boost to educational inclusion

The initiative seeks to guarantee equality in the exercise of the right to education and to ensure that students moving to another country do so with better economic guarantees, with a markedly inclusive character. For university students in Madrid, these additional grants represent decisive support to access the experience of studying or working abroad, regardless of their origin or economic means.
