FTA between Peru and Hong Kong enters into force

The Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Peru and Hong Kong, China and the Side Letter to the Free Trade Agreement between the Republic of Peru and Hong Kong, China on Professional Services enter into force, as announced in the Special Supplement of the Official Gazette El Peruano corresponding to Monday, September 7, 2026. The publication, included in the Foreign Relations section, formalizes the entry into force of both international instruments.
The entry into force of this trade agreement represents a milestone in Peru’s policy of openness toward the Asian market, by incorporating Hong Kong, China as a preferential partner in the trade of goods and services. Consequently, Peruvian exporters and importers gain access to more favorable tariff and regulatory conditions in one of Asia’s primary financial and logistical hubs.
An agreement of double scope
The instrument consists of two complementary pieces that are activated simultaneously. On one hand, the Free Trade Agreement itself, which regulates the trade of merchandise and establishes the framework for tariff reduction and trade facilitation between both parties. On the other, the Side Letter on Professional Services, which extends the scope of the agreement to the services sector, a strategic area for the Peruvian economy.

Opportunities for the exporting sector
