Energía somete a información pública ocho baterías BESS en Los Realejos

The General Directorate of Energy of the Government of the Canary Islands has opened the public information process for the administrative authorization request for the BESS Capella V 337 battery storage installation, with 9.2 MW, in the municipality of Los Realejos (Tenerife). The announcement, signed on September 10, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands no. 198, dated October 2, 2026, and grants a period of thirty days to submit allegations. The installation is promoted by the company Capella Batteries V, S.L. and is processed under file SE24/024.

The procedure is governed by the Regulations approved by Decree 141/2009, of November 10; Royal Decree 1955/2000, of December 1, and Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations. The request for administrative authorization is dated June 22, 2026, and was submitted to the General Directorate of Energy, the competent body for authorizing this type of electrical installations in the Canary Islands.

A 9.2 MW and 41.4 MWh project

The objective of the project is a storage installation of 9.2 MW with an installed battery capacity of 41.40 MWh, equivalent to approximately four hours of autonomy. Its main technical characteristics are:

  • Installed power in inverters: 10.8 MW (24 units of 450 kW).
  • Two transformer units of 7.4 MVA and 0.69/20 kV.
  • Six storage containers.
  • Occupied area: 155.56 m², corresponding to the perimeter fencing.
  • Budget: 3,277,656.56 euros (PEM).

The project also includes the evacuation infrastructure: a 450-meter section of 20 kV underground line, type RHZ1-OLAI(S) 12/20 (24) kV 3x1x400 mm², which will connect the grouping’s sectioning and measurement center with the SE Los Realejos 20 kV. The installation is subject to a simplified environmental impact assessment.

Eight files in the same municipality

The announcement for Capella V is part of a series of eight battery storage projects published in the same issue of the gazette and all located in Los Realejos:

  • BESS Capella V 337: 9.2 MW and 41.40 MWh; Capella Batteries V, S.L.; file SE24/024; 3,277,656.56 euros.
  • BESS Capella VI 338: 4.6 MW and 20.7 MWh; Capella Batteries VI, S.L.; file SE24/025; 1,453,847.52 euros.
  • BESS Capella VII 339: 4.6 MW and 20.7 MWh; Capella Batteries VII, S.L.; file SE24/026; 1,434,109.74 euros.
  • BESS Capella VIII 340: 4.6 MW and 20.7 MWh; Capella Batteries VIII, S.L.; file SE24/027; 1,733,732.28 euros.

  • BESS Polaris IV 344: 2 MW and 10.03 MWh; Polaris Batteries IV, S.L.; file SE24/030; 979,606.84 euros.
  • BESS Polaris IX 345: 2 MW and 10.03 MWh; Polaris Batteries IX, S.L.; file SE24/031; 1,005,347.52 euros.
  • BESS Sirius V 346: 2 MW and 10.03 MWh; Sirius Batteries V, S.L.; file SE24/032; 1,005,347.52 euros.

Together, the eight files total 31 MW of power and 143.62 MWh of capacity, with an aggregate budget of 12,129,436.86 euros. All share the same 450-meter underground evacuation line to the SE Los Realejos 20 kV, except for variations in the conductor section, and all are subject to a simplified environmental impact assessment. The announcement for Sirius V is dated September 11, 2026; the remaining seven are dated September 10.

Deadline, consultation, and allegations

Any natural or legal person has thirty days, starting from the day following the publication of the announcement, to examine the project and submit any allegations they deem appropriate. The documentation can be consulted at the Ministry office in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, in the Usos Múltiples I administrative building, Avenida Francisco La Roche no. 35, 7th floor, by requesting an appointment via email at stgro.energia@gobiernodecanarias.org.

The announcement is signed by the Director General of Energy, by delegation (Resolution no. 462/2026, of 20.3.2026), by the Head of the Energy Technical Area, Alberto Miguel Blasco Lorenzo.

The resolution of these files will determine whether the projects obtain prior administrative authorization and, thereby, whether the municipality of Los Realejos concentrates one of the largest stationary battery storage clusters in the Canary Islands. For residents, the process opens the door to make allegations regarding location, environmental impact, and the evacuation line; for the energy sector, it confirms the investment interest in storage as a complement to renewable generation in Tenerife.
