Encinedo approves the 2027 local holidays: Virgen del Carmen and San Mamet
Por FactBox Admin

The Encinedo City Council has already finalized its calendar of public holidays for 2027. The Plenary of the corporation, meeting in an ordinary session on September 28, 2026, agreed to establish as local holidays for next year July 16, Friday, the day of the Virgen del Carmen, and August 11, Wednesday, San Mamet. The agreement is made public in the Official Gazette of the Province of León number 190, corresponding to Tuesday, October 6, 2026, on page 11, under the official reference BOP-LE-2026-190006.
Two holiday days in the middle of summer
The official announcement specifies the only two days that the municipality may declare as local holidays during the 2027 fiscal year:
- July 16, 2027, Friday: feast of the Virgen del Carmen.
- August 11, 2027, Wednesday: feast of San Mamet.
Both dates are located in the middle of the summer period, in a municipality of the La Cabrera region, and coincide with the bulk of the tourist and hospitality activity in the area. The published text is limited to stating that the resolution is made public “for general knowledge and appropriate effects,” without the announcement providing a period for allegations or subsequent procedures: the plenary agreement is final and takes effect from its publication in the provincial gazette.
Legal basis and deciding body
The determination of local holidays corresponds to the Plenary of the corporation and is supported by two state regulations that the announcement itself expressly invokes:
- Article 46 of Royal Decree 2001/1983, of July 28, regulating the working day, special working days, and rest periods.
- Article 37.2 of Royal Legislative Decree 2/2015, of October 23, which approves the revised text of the Workers’ Statute Law.
This regulation reserves for city councils the determination of two local holidays each year, in addition to national and regional holidays. The document is signed by the mayor, José Manuel Moro Carrera, and is available to interested parties at the municipal electronic office, accessible at encinedo.sedelectronica.es. The Encinedo City Council is headquartered at Adolfo Suárez square, in Encinedo, postal code 24745 (León).
Other municipal procedures in the same gazette
Issue 190 of the provincial gazette, dated October 6, 2026, includes a second announcement from the same council, with reference BOP-LE-2026-190005. In it, it is reported that the Plenary, in an ordinary session on September 26, 2026, initially approved file 123/2026, regarding budget modification number 1/2026 of the current budget, in the form of a credit supplement financed by the liquid treasury surplus.
This file is subject to public consultation for a period of fifteen days, starting from the day following its publication, in compliance with Article 169.1, by reference to 177.2, of the Recast Text of the Law Regulating Local Treasuries, approved by Royal Legislative Decree 2/2004, of March 5. If no allegations are presented within that period, the agreement shall be understood as definitively approved.
What this means for residents and businesses
The publication of local holidays allows the residents of Encinedo to plan vacations and long weekends in advance, and requires shops, bars, workshops, and companies in the municipality to adjust their opening calendars, staff shifts, and calculation of annual working days. As these are two summer dates, the impact is concentrated in the summer season, when economic activity and the return of residents to the municipality reach their peak. The reference BOP-LE-2026-190006 serves as the official supporting document for the local labor calendar for 2027.
