The Tubo of Zaragoza, declared a Site of Tourist Interest of Aragon

The Official Gazette of Aragon publishes in issue 161, dated August 20, 2026, Order MAT/1232/2026, of July 27, by which the Department of Environment and Tourism declares “El Tubo” in Zaragoza as a Tourist Asset of Interest of Aragon, with the code BITA number 7. The declaration, signed by the counselor Luis Francisco Biendicho Gracia, is registered in section III of Other Provisions and Agreements of the gazette.

The order stems from the file submitted by the Zaragoza City Council, which proved that the area meets the requirements of articles 21 and 23 of Decree 295/2005, of December 13, of the Government of Aragon, which regulates the declarations of tourist interest of Aragon. The resolution is adopted in accordance with article 24 of the same regulation, following the favorable proposal of the General Directorate of Tourism and Hospitality.

A historical space with over a hundred years of life

“El Tubo” is a historical space with over a hundred years of life and a network of numerous active establishments located in the San Gil neighborhood of Zaragoza. It is not merely a hospitality area, but an authentic urban tourist product capable of projecting a differential image of the city associated with authenticity, gastronomy, coexistence, and the vitality of the historic center.

The network of alleys that gives the area its name is configured by these streets:

• Libertad
• Blasón Aragonés
• Ossau
• Plaza Sas
• Pino
• Estébanes

Heritage from the Roman era

Along its layout, vestiges of the Roman era, structures from the Middle Ages, and elements reflecting the mark of artistic movements such as Mudéjar, Gothic, or Modernist are preserved. El Tubo is an example of an urban layout with narrow streets that preserve the medieval plot system and a structure that dates back to the Roman era.

The conservation of the urban fabric allows for the observation of Zaragoza’s evolution from its foundation as Caesaraugusta to the present day, which reinforces its value as a living testimony of the city’s history.

A community that keeps identity alive

The active involvement of hoteliers, merchants, and neighbors, through entities such as the Asociación del Tubo, has been fundamental in keeping its identity alive, promoting cultural revitalization and citizen participation initiatives that strengthen the bonds between space and community. The order emphasizes that the asset contributes significantly to the knowledge of Aragonese tourist heritage, with a high influx of visitors and simultaneous care for the urban and landscape environment.

Against the order, which exhausts administrative remedies, a contentious-administrative appeal may be filed before the High Court of Justice of Aragon within two months, or, optionally, a request for reversal before the Regional Minister of Environment and Tourism within one month, in accordance with Law 5/2021, of June 29, on the Organization and Legal Regime of the Autonomous Public Sector of Aragon.

The declaration as BITA number 7 makes “El Tubo” an official benchmark of Aragonese tourism, with a recognition that can boost its projection, the revitalization of local trade and hospitality, and the enhancement of an urban heritage that combines gastronomy, history, and neighborhood life.
