Por FactBox Admin

The Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Catalonia (TSJC) has approved the appointment of six justices of the peace for four municipalities in Berguedà, in the session held on June 30, 2026. The agreements are made public through an edict signed by the Secretary of Government, Joaquim Martínez Sánchez, published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Barcelona (BOPB) on August 27, 2026, with reference CVE 202610134957.
The appointments directly affect the local justice of the region, as they cover both permanent positions and substitutions in the justices of the peace courts of Borredà, La Quar, Santa Maria de Merlès, and Viver i Serrateix, all of which are assigned to the judicial district of Berga.
The new permanent and substitute justices
The edict includes six appointments for Berguedà, with permanent and substitute justices to ensure the continuity of the service:
- Emilia Prat Cunill, permanent justice of the peace of Borredà.
- Xavier Serra Corpas, substitute justice of the peace of La Quar.
- Prudenci Bruch Ambrós, permanent justice of the peace of Santa Maria de Merlès.
- Daniel Pujols Font, substitute justice of the peace of Santa Maria de Merlès.
- Antoni Cots Soler, permanent justice of the peace of Viver i Serrateix.
- Josep Vilanova Plans, substitute justice of the peace of Viver i Serrateix.
Regulatory framework and taking office
The appointments are governed by Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, on justices of the peace, which establishes that those appointed must take office within a period of twenty calendar days from the publication of the appointment in the official provincial gazette. Taking office requires an oath or promise before the judge of first instance and instruction of the district, or the dean if there is more than one.
The duration of the mandate is calculated from the date of publication of the appointment and is for a period of four years. The edict complies with the personal data protection criteria established in articles 236 bis and following of the Organic Law of the Judiciary (LOPJ) and Instruction 6/2012 of the General Secretariat of the Administration of Justice.
Appeals against the agreement
Against the agreement adopted by the Commission of the Governing Chamber, interested parties may file an administrative appeal before the Plenary of the General Council of the Judiciary within a period of one month. The edict, electronically signed on July 17, 2026, is published in full in the BOPB of August 27.
These appointments guarantee the renewal and coverage of the justice of the peace in small municipalities of the Berguedà region, where the justice of the peace is often the first and only point of contact for residents with the Administration of Justice. The designation of holders and substitutes ensures that local judicial services remain operational in Borredà, La Quar, Santa Maria de Merlès, and Viver i Serrateix for the next four years.
