The TSJC appoints four justices of the peace in municipalities of Cantabria

Por FactBox Admin

The Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Cantabria (TSJC) has agreed upon the appointment of titular justices of the peace in Cieza, Lamasón, and Castañeda, and a substitute justice of the peace in Bárcena de Pie de Concha. The four agreements, adopted at the meeting on September 28, 2026, are published in the Official Gazette of Cantabria (BOC) no. 196, dated October 13, 2026, with references CVE-2026-7922, CVE-2026-7923, CVE-2026-7924, and CVE-2026-7925. The edicts are signed by the Secretary of the Governing Chamber, Joaquín de la Serna Bosch.

The four announcements occupy pages 52034 to 52037 of the gazette and are framed within the section corresponding to the High Court of Justice of Cantabria, under the appointments heading. The designation of justices of the peace is governed by articles 101 and 102 of the Organic Law 6/1985, of July 1, of the Judiciary, and by Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, of the Justices of the Peace. These are single-person bodies that exercise the first instance of proximity justice in municipalities where no court of first instance exists.

The same body published other announcements in October linked to these positions, such as the filling of the titular and substitute justice of the peace positions in Ampuero by direct designation of the Governing Chamber, in accordance with article 11.1 of Regulation 3/1995. In previous weeks, the BOC also included calls to fill justice of the peace positions in other municipalities, such as Rasines or San Roque de Riomiera, with application deadlines of fifteen to twenty business days.

The four appointments

  • Cieza — Titular Justice of the Peace: Purificación Manuela Ferrero Maroto (CVE-2026-7922).
  • Lamasón — Titular Justice of the Peace: Vicente Collado Martínez (CVE-2026-7924).
  • Castañeda — Titular Justice of the Peace: Julia Diego Palazuelos (CVE-2026-7925).
  • Bárcena de Pie de Concha — Substitute Justice of the Peace: Antonio de la Herrán González (CVE-2026-7923).

The edicts identify each designated person by their full name and partial digits of their national identity document, which the gazette publishes masked. Three of the four appointments correspond to the status of titular and only one, that of Bárcena de Pie de Concha, to that of substitute.

Dates and assumption of office

The agreements of the Governing Chamber were adopted at the meeting on September 28, 2026. The edicts for Cieza, Lamasón, and Bárcena de Pie de Concha are dated in Santander on October 6, 2026, while that of Castañeda is dated October 2, 2026.

The appointments are published for general knowledge and for the purpose that the designated justices of the peace assume their office at the destination court, in compliance with the provisions of articles 20 and 21 of the Regulation of the Justices of the Peace.

Appeals against the agreements

An administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) may be filed against the appointment agreements before the Plenary of the General Council of the Judiciary within one month, as well as an optional appeal for reversal (recurso potestativo de reposición), as established in Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations.

The one-month period to challenge the decision and the requirement to take office at the destination court are the two procedures that mark the effective entry into office of the appointees.

The publication of these four agreements completes the filling of justice of the peace positions in small municipalities of Cantabria, where these bodies assume functions of conciliation, civil registry, and primary judicial assistance. For the residents of Cieza, Lamasón, Castañeda, and Bárcena de Pie de Concha, the appointment guarantees the continuity of the proximity justice service without the need to travel to the corresponding judicial district.
