El TSJ de Extremadura nombra diez jueces de paz en municipios pacenses

The Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Extremadura agreed to the appointment of ten justices of the peace, including both titulars and substitutes, in nine localities of the province of Badajoz. The agreements were adopted in the session held on September 21, 2026, and are published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz number 187, corresponding to Wednesday, September 30, 2026, within the Administration of Justice section. Those appointed must take office within twenty calendar days.

The regulatory framework of the appointments

The ten announcements reproduce the same formula: the Governing Chamber of the Extremaduran high court, based in Cáceres, resolves the filling of the positions in accordance with the provisions of article 20.1 of Regulation number 3/1995, of June 7, of the Justices of the Peace. The assumption of office must take place within twenty calendar days following the publication of the appointment in the provincial gazette, after taking an oath or promise before the Court of First Instance and Instruction of the corresponding judicial district, or before the Dean if there are several.

An administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) may be filed against each agreement before the General Council of the Judiciary within one month, according to article 12 of the aforementioned regulation in conjunction with article 14 of Regulation 1/2000 of the Governing Bodies of the Courts and with Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations. The announcements appear signed by the Government Secretary, María Pilar García Rodríguez.

Five new titular justices of the peace

The appointments as titulars affect five municipalities, distributed across four judicial districts:

  • Ahillones (Llerena judicial district): María Isabel González Guerrero, announcement 3791/2026.
  • Baterno (Herrera del Duque judicial district): María Petra Yegros Sánchez, announcement 3792/2026.
  • Casas de Don Pedro (Herrera del Duque judicial district): Juliana Rodríguez Arroba, announcement 3793/2026.
  • La Morera (Zafra judicial district): Guadalupe Mejías del Cosso, announcement 3798/2026.
  • San Pedro de Mérida (Mérida judicial district): José Luis Muñoz Mendoza, announcement 3801/2026.

Five substitutes to cover absences

The other half of the designations correspond to substitute justices of the peace, a figure provided to replace the titular in case of vacancy, absence, or illness:

Territorial distribution and pending procedures

The distribution by judicial districts leaves Mérida as the most affected, with three appointments (Don Álvaro, El Carrascalejo, and San Pedro de Mérida), followed by Zafra and Herrera del Duque, with two each. Llerena, Castuera, and Jerez de los Caballeros complete the list with one designation each. The town of La Morera is the only one to receive two appointments in the same bulletin, one as titular and another as substitute.

The ten announcements are published consecutively in the same issue of the provincial bulletin, with references 3791/2026 to 3801/2026, and share an identical appeal footer and deadline for taking office. Publication in the official bulletin begins the count of twenty calendar days for each appointee to formalize the oath or promise and assume the position.

The figure of the justice of the peace is the first judicial instance for residents of municipalities without a court of first instance and instruction. With these ten appointments, the Administration of Justice reinforces the coverage of proximity justice in the rural areas of Badajoz, where these bodies assume competencies in civil matters, minor offenses, and conciliation, in addition to civil registry functions and collaboration with the courts of their judicial district.
