The High Court of Justice of Catalonia appoints 21 justices of the peace in Lleida

The Governing Chamber of the High Court of Justice of Catalonia has agreed upon the appointment of titular and substitute justices of the peace in 21 municipalities of the province of Lleida, in the session held on June 30, 2026. The agreement is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Lleida (no. 163, of August 26, 2026), edict 7172, with official reference CVE BOP-2026_0_163_7172, and is signed by the Governing Secretary of the court, Joaquim Martínez Sánchez.

The appointments affect municipalities distributed across six judicial districts of the province: Balaguer, Cervera, La Seu d’Urgell, Lleida, Solsona, and Tremp. The call is governed by Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, regarding justices of the peace, and the publication complies with the data protection criteria of article 236 bis and following of the Organic Law of the Judiciary and Instruction 6/2012 of the General Secretariat of the Administration of Justice.

Deadlines and Term Duration

In accordance with articles 8 and 11 of Regulation 3/1995, those appointed must take office within a period of twenty calendar days starting from the publication of the appointment in the official provincial gazette, with the prescribed oath or promise before the judge of first instance and instruction of the district, or the dean if there is more than one. The duration of the term is calculated from the publication and is four years.

An administrative appeal may be filed against the agreement adopted by the Commission of the Governing Chamber before the Plenary of the General Council of the Judiciary within a period of one month.

Justice of the peace judges are the gateway to proximity justice in small municipalities, where they resolve minor civil and criminal matters and conciliation acts. The renewal of these 21 positions guarantees the continuity of the judicial service in towns within the regions of La Noguera, El Segrià, L’Urgell, La Cerdanya, Alt Urgell, El Solsonès, and El Pallars, and ensures that residents maintain direct and close access to the Administration of Justice.
