Por FactBox Admin

El tribunal extremeño abre el plazo del juez de paz de Eljas

The High Court of Justice of Extremadura has opened the application period for the position of permanent justice of the peace of Eljas, a town in the judicial district of Coria. The call, processed as a renewal of the position, is published by edict in the Official Gazette of the Province of Cáceres No. 0213, dated November 6, 2026, with official reference BOP-2026-5199. Applicants have twenty calendar days starting from the day following the publication.

The edict appears in Section IV, dedicated to the Administration of Justice, and bears the signature of María Pilar García Rodríguez, government secretary of the High Court of Justice of Extremadura, in Cáceres on October 29, 2026. The document is limited to identifying the judicial body, the district, and the vacant position: it does not detail who currently holds the office nor the specific reasons for the termination, and refers to the regulated procedure for submitting applications.

The call for Eljas joins others from the same period in the province. The edict from the City Council of San Martín de Trevejo published on October 30 (BOP-2026-5099) invokes Article 101 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary and sets fifteen business days, while that of the High Court of Justice of Extremadura for Casas de Don Gómez, dated November 4 (BOP-2026-5152), establishes twenty calendar days for the substitute position. The deadline and the resolving body vary depending on whether it is a municipal proposal or a direct call from the court.

How and where to submit the application

Applications must be submitted to the Court of First Instance of the Judicial District, written on plain paper and addressed to the Most Excellent Mrs. President of the High Court of Justice of Extremadura, headquartered in Cáceres.

  • Deadline: twenty calendar days from the day following the publication of the edict, which places the closing date on November 26, 2026.
  • Location: the Court of First Instance itself, with the publication of the edict in the Official Gazette of the Province or its display on the corresponding notice board.
  • Data the application must include: full name, D.N.I. (ID number), address, studies completed, and current profession.

Documentation accompanying the application

Along with the application, the applicant must provide the following documents:

  • Birth certificate or photocopy of the D.N.I.
  • Medical certification stating that the applicant does not suffer from any illness that incapacitates them from exercising the office of justice of the peace.
  • Sworn statement of not being subject to any cause of incompatibility.
  • Sworn statement of the profession currently practiced.

The criminal record certificate is not provided by the applicant: the Government Secretariat incorporates it ex officio, issued by the Central Registry of Convicts and Fugitives of the Ministry of Justice through its electronic application.

A procedure with electronic verification

The edict incorporates the verification code BOP-2026-5199 on both pages, between 25,000 and 25,001, and refers to the electronic office of the Provincial Council of Cáceres to verify its authenticity. It is, therefore, an announcement with individual traceability within the provincial bulletin, allowing any resident to contrast the full content of the published text.

The position directly affects a small municipality in the judicial district of Coria, where the justice of the peace is the closest judicial reference for residents. The edict is the only channel for submitting candidacies: anyone who does not formalize their application within the deadline and with the indicated documentation is excluded from the process, which will conclude with the appointment by the High Court of Justice of Extremadura. The residents of Eljas have until November 26 to decide whether to apply for a position that will mark the local administration of justice in the coming years.
