The Canary Islands Health Service sets fourteen orderlies in second award

The Canarian Health Service has appointed fourteen orderlies as permanent statutory staff in the second award of the exceptional selection process for the stabilization of long-term temporary employment (merit competition). This is established by the Resolution of August 17, 2026, signed by the director of the organization, Adasat Goya González, and published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands number 173, dated August 28, 2026.

The resolution, which appears in the Appointments, situations, and incidents section of the Ministry of Health, consolidates the applicants into vacant basic positions in the category of Orderly, Other Professional Groups. The successful candidates will have a non-extendable period of 15 calendar days from the day following publication to take possession of their position.

A stabilization process underway

The appointment is part of the execution of the extraordinary public employment offers for stabilization provided for in Law 20/2021, of December 28. The original call was published in the BOC number 255, of December 29, 2022, and following the first award in May 2026, there were resignations that left certain positions vacant.

Once the possession period ended, the centers declared those positions vacant and the General Directorate of Human Resources formulated a final award based on strict order of precedence, which is now being resolved. The coverage is carried out in accordance with the twelfth base of the call and Decree 123/1999, of June 17, on the selection of statutory personnel.

Destinations of the new orderlies

The fourteen appointees are distributed among the main health centers in the Canary Islands:

• University Hospital Complex of the Canary Islands (3 positions).
• Insular-Maternal Child University Hospital Complex (5 positions).
• Our Lady of Candelaria University Hospital (5 positions).
• Health Services Management of the Lanzarote Health Area (1 position, in specialized care and in the Arrecife health zone).

Among the successful candidates are Ricardo Hernández González, José Gregorio Barrera Sánchez, María del Carmen Marrero Marrero, Horacio Rivero Mendoza, María Esther Machín Molina, Sofía Rodríguez Sánchez, María Jesús Villanueva Ramos, Clara Vanesa Torres Pérez, Manuel Suárez Suárez, José Francisco Sánchez Tarajano, Fátima Candelaria Rivero Jorge, Víctor León Pérez, María Isabel Delgado Díaz, María Vanessa Gómez Llorca, and Eva Irasuegui Quintana.

Deadline, documentation, and effects

The taking of office shall be carried out before the management or destination management office, identifying oneself with a DNI, NIE, or passport. Those who do not appear in the SIRHUS system or must update their document must provide a certified copy, and applicants without Spanish nationality must prove the requirements of the fifth clause of the call.

Failure to take office within the deadline implies the loss of participation rights in the process, except for justified causes appreciated by the General Directorate of Human Resources. Those in a situation of temporary disability may defer their incorporation until medical discharge, and permanent staff in another category may opt for a leave of absence for the provision of services in the public sector.

Personnel accessing through this route may not obtain a service commission outside the Canarian Health Service for two years from the taking of office, except for causes of gender-based violence or terrorism. An appeal for reversal may be filed against the resolution before the director of the organization, or a contentious-administrative appeal before the High Court of Justice of the Canary Islands.

Impact on the healthcare workforce

With this second allocation, the Canarian Health Service takes another step toward the consolidation of its workforce, reducing temporality in a category essential for the functioning of hospitals. The incorporation of these orderlies as permanent staff reinforces the stability of specialized and primary care teams, and requires the orderly termination of the interim personnel who occupied those positions, in accordance with the criteria of the Order of March 30, 2017, of the Ministry of Health.
