The Management Directorate of the Aragonese Health Service has awarded María Pilar Herranz Andrés the position of Head of Section of the Transversal Perioperative Medicine Unit of the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Service of the “Miguel Servet” University Hospital in Zaragoza. The decision is formalized through the Resolution of September 22, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Aragon number 194, of October 6, 2026, with the official reference BOA20261006004. The appointment is resolved after the completion of the two phases of the selection process convened to fill the vacancy.
A two-phase selection process
The origin of the vacancy dates back to the Resolution of December 10, 2025, of the Management Directorate of the Aragonese Health Service, published in the Official Gazette of Aragon number 248, of December 24, 2025. That call was based on Decree 37/2011, of March 8, of the Government of Aragon, regarding the selection of statutory personnel and the provision of vacancies in the centers of the Aragonese Health Service.
Upon completion of the two phases of the process, the proposal was made by the specialized technical evaluation commission, which adopted it in a session held on September 21, 2026. The resolution is issued in accordance with articles 67 and 68 of the aforementioned Decree 37/2011, with the seventh and eighth bases of the call, and by virtue of the competence established in article 62 of the same regulation.
Temporary four-year appointment
The agreement of the Management Directorate is structured in three points:
- First: to award the position of Head of Section of the Transversal Perioperative Medicine Unit of the Anesthesiology and Resuscitation Service of the “Miguel Servet” University Hospital in Zaragoza to María Pilar Herranz Andrés.
- Second: the designated physician must take possession of the position within one month from the day following the publication of the resolution in the Official Gazette of Aragon.
- Third: the appointment will be temporary, with a duration of four years, without prejudice to the possibility of agreeing on its continuity for similar periods if the interested party passes the evaluation provided for in article 69 of Decree 37/2011. The period of tenure will be shorter if, before ending, termination occurs for any of the reasons provided for in current regulations.
Management training and clinical management agreement
In accordance with article 67.3 of Decree 37/2011 and point 3 of the seventh base of the call, the center’s Management, in collaboration with the Aragonese Institute of Health Sciences, will carry out an assessment of the management competencies of the selected person. The objective is to establish the appropriate management training plan.
Likewise, the selected person must sign a four-year clinical management agreement for the healthcare unit with the center’s Management, based on the submitted project. Its development and fulfillment will be taken into account, upon completion, for the evaluation provided for in Article 69 of Decree 37/2011, of March 8.
Deadlines and appeal process
Against the resolution, which does not exhaust administrative remedies, an administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) may be filed before the head of the Department of Health within one month. This process is based on Article 48.3 of the Recast Text of the Law of the Aragonese Health Service, approved by Legislative Decree 2/2004, of December 30, of the Government of Aragon, and Article 64.2 of Law 5/2021, of June 29, on the Organization and Legal Regime of the Autonomous Public Sector of Aragon.
The resolution is signed in Zaragoza on September 22, 2026, by the Managing Director of the Aragonese Health Service, José Ignacio Castaño Lasaosa.
The filling of this leadership position reinforces the management structure of one of the reference healthcare services of the Aragonese health system. The Transversal Perioperative Medicine Unit organizes the care of the surgical patient before, during, and after the intervention, a key area for clinical safety and surgical efficiency at the “Miguel Servet” University Hospital. The temporary nature of the appointment, subject to evaluation after four years, also introduces an accountability mechanism regarding the management of the unit.
