The Royal Alcázar announces a craft competition for the Imperial Wedding

The Board of Trustees of the Royal Alcázar and the City Hall of Seville has announced the Craftsmanship Competition “A Carnation for the Imperial Wedding,” featuring a single prize of 5,000 euros and a application submission period of 30 calendar days. The call is formalized through extract no. 221436, published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Seville no. 187, dated September 25, 2026, with official reference BOP-SE-2026-187022.

An agreement of the Executive Commission under the General Subsidies Law

The call stems from the agreement of July 28, 2026, by the Executive Commission of the Board of Trustees of the Royal Alcázar and City Hall, which approved the regulatory bases of the contest. The extract is published in accordance with the provisions of articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Subsidies Law, and its full text can be consulted in the National Subsidies Database under the identifier BDNS 931124.

The contest is part of the commemoration of the 500th Anniversary of the Wedding of Charles V and Isabella of Portugal, an anniversary linked to the Sevillian site. The declared objective is the creation of a handcrafted carnation, in order to promote artistic trades and artisanal creation, and to highlight Andalusian artistic craftsmanship and traditional trades linked to historical and cultural heritage.

Who can participate and with what work

Natural or legal persons who are artisans and meet the following requirements may apply:

• Be registered as artisans in the first or second section of the Craft Registry of Andalusia.
• Accredit this status as of the start date of the application submission period.
• Submit a single work per participant.
• Accompany the application with the documentation, explanatory report, and photographic report required in the bases.

Deadline, evaluation, and resolution

The application submission period is 30 calendar days, counted from the day following the publication of the extract in the Official Gazette of the Province of Seville, transferred from the National Subsidies Database. With the publication on September 25, 2026, the count extends until October 25, 2026.

Once the deadline has passed, the Jury will carry out an initial assessment and will request that participants whose works are shortlisted proceed with their physical delivery, under the terms provided in the rules. The awarding of prizes will be carried out on a competitive basis, and the resolution will be the responsibility of the Executive Commission of the Board of the Real Alcázar of Seville, upon the proposal of the respective juries. The extract is signed in Seville on September 21, 2026, by the Deputy Mayor for Finance, Administration, and Digital Transformation, Juan Francisco Bueno Navarro.

A call accompanied by other centenary competitions

The initiative does not come alone. In the same issue of the provincial bulletin, two other extracts from the Board of the Real Alcázar and City Hall are published, also approved by agreement on July 28, 2026, and equally endowed with 5,000 euros each:

• The Photography Contest, extract no. 221437 (BDNS 931125), with a first prize of 3,000 euros and two mentions of 1,000 euros.
• The Poetry Contest, extract no. 221438 (BDNS 931127), with an identical distribution of 3,000 euros and two mentions of 1,000 euros.

The set of calls constitutes a citizen participation program centered around the V Centenary, with craftsmanship as one of its specific axes.

The call is of direct interest to the Andalusian artisan sector, which has one month to register for a competition with a single prize of significant value, and reinforces the link between the Real Alcázar and traditional trades in the year of the commemoration of the imperial weddings.
