The MIFIC calls for the fourth tariff quota of 2026 in three days

Por FactBox Admin

El MIFIC convoca el cuarto contingente arancelario de 2026 en tres días

The Ministry of Development, Industry, and Trade (MIFIC) called upon interested parties to submit requests for the available volumes of tariff-rate quotas corresponding to the year 2026. The call was published as the Fourth Notice of Call for Tariff-Rate Quotas Corresponding to the Year 2026 in La Gaceta, Official Gazette No. 181 on Monday, October 5, 2026, page 9589. The deadline to request them is three (03) business days starting from the business day following the date of that publication.

The notice is issued in accordance with the provisions of the Free Trade Agreements in force for Nicaragua and the Quota Administration Regulations, and is signed by the Directorate for the Application and Negotiation of Trade Agreements of MIFIC. This is the fourth call of the year, confirming that the mechanism operates through successive calls as volumes are released.

Deadline and Method of Submission

The calculation of the deadline begins on the business day following the publication; therefore, the expiration date is set for Thursday, October 8, 2026. Applications are not accepted at physical windows: they must be completed online.

  • Deadline: three (03) business days from the business day following the publication.
  • Submission method: Tariff-Rate Quota Administration System.
  • System location: Online Services Window of the website www.mific.gob.ni.
  • Specific volumes and requirements: available on the website www.mific.gob.ni.

Scope and Regulatory Basis

MIFIC acts as the implementing authority for the tariff-rate quotas negotiated in the free trade agreements signed by Nicaragua. The notice expressly invokes the Free Trade Agreements in force for the country and the Quota Administration Regulations as the basis for the call.

The publication does not detail the volumes per product or the assigned amounts within the body of the notice: it refers to the institutional page to consult the specific volumes and the requirements demanded of each applicant. Nor does it set tariffs or quotas in the published text, but rather the procedure and the deadline to request the allocation.

Who is Affected

The call is directed at importers and agro-exporters operating under preferential quotas, that is, those who need a prior allocation to bring in goods with preferential tariff treatment.

  • Interested parties called: importers and operators covered by the free trade agreements in force.
  • Procedure: online application, not in-person.
  • Mandatory prior consultation: volumes and requirements at www.mific.gob.ni.
  • Consequence of the deadline: three business days, with no margin for late procedures.

The closing of the deadline in just three business days concentrates the administrative burden into a single week and excludes those who do not complete the online process. For importers and agro-exporters, the allocation of the quota determines the final cost of the goods, meaning that the notice published in La Gaceta No. 181 is the immediate operational reference for planning purchases and shipments for the remainder of the year.
