The Women's Institute announces Notburga Haro grants for female authors
Por FactBox Admin

The Women’s Institute of Castilla-La Mancha has announced the grants for the edition and publication of works written by female authors “Notburga Haro” for 2026, with an estimated maximum amount of 12,000 euros. The call is approved by the Resolution of 09/24/2026, signed by the director of the organization, María Teresa López Tomé, and is published in the Official Gazette of Castilla-La Mancha (DOCM) No. 189, of October 1, 2026, with the official reference 2026/7029 and the identifier BDNS 931859.
The text is based on Order 105/2026, of July 6, of the Ministry of Equality, which establishes the regulatory bases for these grants and was published in DOCM No. 132, of July 14, 2026. The resolution is also governed by Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Law on Subsidies, its implementing regulation (Royal Decree 887/2006, of July 21) and Legislative Decree 1/2002, of November 19, which approves the Recast Text of the Treasury Law of Castilla-La Mancha.
In its statement of reasons, the Institute maintains that works written by women, “especially those from emerging authors or innovative approaches,” face difficulties in accessing professional editing processes and wide dissemination circuits, which limits the social reach of their contributions.
Amount, limits, and financing
- Estimated maximum amount of the call: 12,000 euros.
- Budget line: 70.01.323B.48126 of the General Budgets of the Regional Government of Castilla-La Mancha for 2027.
- Limit per application: 6,000 euros.
- 100% of the requested eligible amount is subsidized, up to that limit.
- The granting is subject to the suspensive condition of the existence of adequate and sufficient credit in the 2027 fiscal year.
- The grants are incompatible with other subsidies or income for the same purpose, unless prior and express authorization is granted by the Institute.
Who can apply and which works are admitted
Beneficiaries may be female authors of legal age, of Spanish nationality and residents of Castilla-La Mancha, as well as asylum seekers in Spain who prove such status. Projects must meet one of these requirements:
- Works of any literary genre written by a single female author.
- Works written by several female authors, exclusively of the essay genre and with a central theme of feminism, gender equality, gender-based violence, women’s rights, or critical analysis of the patriarchal system.
Works must be unpublished and original, submitted in Spanish, and published in paper format. Novels, poetry, plays, and essays are accepted, with a maximum of two works per author. Doctoral theses and undergraduate or master’s final projects are excluded, although their adaptation into the essay genre is accepted, as are works that reproduce sexist stereotypes or hate speech.
Deadlines, evaluation, and commitments
The deadline for submitting applications is 20 business days from the day following the publication of the resolution and its summary in the DOCM. Natural persons may submit them preferably electronically with an electronic signature; groups of natural persons are required to do so. The evaluation is carried out through a competitive process according to these criteria:
- Creativity, originality, and literary, artistic, research, or dissemination quality: up to 3 points.
- Contribution to equality between women and men and to feminist thought: up to 2 points.
- Social, educational, and cultural impact in Castilla-La Mancha: up to 2 points.
- Being the author’s first published work: up to 1.5 points.
- Technical characteristics and cost/price ratio: up to 1.5 points.
A minimum of 5 out of 10 points is required. Works written using non-gender-inclusive language or those created with artificial intelligence tools will not be considered, and any suspicion of their use will result in automatic disqualification. The maximum resolution period is six months, with negative administrative silence; payment is 100% upfront and the activity must be executed within a maximum of 24 months. Beneficiaries shall deliver five copies to the Institute for its Library and include the logos of the organization and the Junta in the published editions.
The call reinforces public support for female literary creation and feminist essays in the region, a segment that, according to the Institute itself, faces more barriers to reaching the publishing market. For the publishing and literary sector of Castilla-La Mancha, it represents a direct funding route for proofreading, layout, illustration, printing, and promotion of works, with the requirement that projects demonstrate quality and an effective contribution to equality.
