The Government appoints Joan Cristòfol Jaume Mulet as member of the Board of Ports of the Balearic Islands

The Governing Council of the Balearic Islands agreed, in the session of August 28, 2026, to the dismissal of Ms. Maria Joaquina Ferrer Matas as a member-vocal of the Board of Directors of Ports de les Illes Balears and the appointment in her place of Mr. Joan Cristòfol Jaume Mulet. The agreement, adopted upon the proposal of the Minister of the Sea and the Water Cycle, is published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) no. 109, of September 1, 2026, with the official reference 8756.

A handover at the highest governing body of the port entity

Ports de les Illes Balears is the public entity that manages the port infrastructure of the archipelago. It was created through Law 10/2005, of June 21, on ports of the Balearic Islands, and is configured as a public business entity, in accordance with article 2.1 b) of Law 7/2010, of July 21, of the instrumental public sector of the autonomous community.

The entity is attached to the Ministry of the Sea and the Water Cycle, according to annex I of Decree 6/2025, of June 2, of the President of the Balearic Islands, which establishes the competencies and the basic organic structure of the ministries.

Composition of the Board of Directors

Article 33.2 of Law 10/2005, as amended by article 20 of Law 7/2024, of December 11, on urgent measures for administrative simplification and rationalization, determines the composition of the Board of Directors:

  • The president, the vice-president, and the managing director are ex officio members.
  • The appointed members, in a number not less than 12 nor more than 25, are appointed by agreement of the Governing Council.
  • The term of office for appointed members is four years.

The content of the agreement

The adopted agreement contains three points:

  • First. To dismiss Ms. Maria Joaquina Ferrer Matas as a member-vocal of the Board of Directors, thanking her for the services rendered.
  • Second. To appoint Mr. Joan Cristòfol Jaume Mulet as a member-vocal of the Board of Directors of Ports de les Illes Balears.
  • Third. To publish the agreement in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands.

The agreement is signed by the Secretary of the Governing Council, Antònia Maria Estarellas Torrens, and by the President of the Balearic Islands, Margarita Prohens Rigo, in Palma, on the date of the electronic signature of August 28, 2026.

A relevant handover for port management

The change of member renews the composition of the highest governing body of the entity that manages the ports of the Balearic Islands, a key area for connectivity, economic activity, and the tourism sector of the archipelago. The renewal of appointed members, with four-year terms, ensures the continuity of the management of the public port infrastructure.
