The Balearic Government urgently approves subsidies for open patios

The Department of Families, Social Welfare and Dependency Care of the Government of the Balearic Islands has approved, on an urgent basis, the call for grants to finance open courtyards (patis oberts) and other care activities for minors, with the aim of promoting family and work-life balance. The measure, framed within the Corresponsables Plan 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) no. 114, of September 12, 2026, through Resolution 8929 of the counselor Sandra Fernández Herranz, electronically signed on September 1.

The call, with a global budget of 1,300,000 euros, is processed via the urgent route due to the imminent start of the 2026-2027 school year, a fact that reduces the procedural instruction deadlines by half, with the exception of those relating to the submission of applications and appeals. The program is part of the Corresponsables Plan, promoted since 2021 by the State Secretariat for Equality and the Eradication of Violence against Women of the Ministry of Equality, and is governed by the General Grants Law 38/2003 and the Revised Text of the Grants Law of the Balearic Islands.

Purpose and beneficiaries

The grant finances open courtyard services and professional care activities for boys, girls, and adolescents between 3 and 16 years old, or up to 21 years old in the case of people with recognized disabilities or functional diversity. Projects must preferably be developed in publicly owned spaces and may include cultural, sporting, and leisure activities, dining services, or educational support, provided that the primary objective is to guarantee care.

The following entities may be beneficiaries:

• City councils, minor local entities, and associations of municipalities (mancomunitats) of the Balearic Islands, and linked or dependent public sector bodies, with a maximum coverage of 75% of the project cost.
• Student family associations, third-sector social entities, and other non-profit entities (associations, foundations, religious organizations, or singular entities), with a coverage of 100% of the cost.

Allocation and execution conditions

The assigned credit is distributed across three items of the general budgets of the Autonomous Community extended for 2026:

• 1,000,000 € charged to item 17201/323A01/46001/00 FF26131.
• 100,000 € charged to item 17201/323A01/46401/00 FF26131.
• 200,000 € charged to item 17201/323A01/48000/00 FF26131.

The payment of the grants will be made as a lump sum of 100% and without the requirement of guarantees. The activities will take place during the school term, between September 10, 2026, and June 18, 2027, excluding Christmas holidays (from December 23, 2026, to January 6, 2027) and Easter holidays (from March 25 to April 4, 2027). The eligible schedule is from 3:30 PM to 7:30 PM Monday to Friday and from 8:30 AM to 2:30 PM on Saturdays, with a minimum ratio of one caregiver or monitor for every 10 participants.

Deadline and access for families

Applications must be submitted electronically to the Electronic Office of the Autonomous Community of the Balearic Islands within a period of ten business days from the day following the publication of the call in the BOIB. Projects must promote the free nature and universality of the actions; in the event that the service cannot be offered free of charge, entities may charge families a maximum of 30 euros per month per child for families with the greatest need for protection and 60 euros for the rest, without any fee being applicable to families in a situation or risk of social exclusion.

The call, identified with the code BDNS 927124, reinforces one of the key policies of the Balearic Government for the reconciliation of family, work, and personal life, while promoting the creation of quality employment in the care and educational leisure sector. For families in the Balearic Islands, this measure represents direct support to align school schedules with work schedules and move toward a more equitable model of co-responsibility between women and men.
