Por FactBox Admin

El GLP canalizado sube un 12,4% desde el 20 de octubre

The General Directorate of Energy Policy and Mines has set the variable term for piped liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) for end users at 101.8396 c€/kg, compared to the 90.6022 c€/kg in effect since September 15, representing a price increase of 12.4%. The fixed term remains at €1.60/month and the new prices, before taxes, apply from 00:00 hours on October 20, 2026. The decision is published in the Official State Gazette (Boletín Oficial del Estado) no. 259, of October 19, 2026, via the Resolution of October 15, 2026 (reference BOE-A-2026-21669).

The framework: an automatic monthly review

The resolution is issued under article 94 of Law 34/1998, of October 7, on the hydrocarbon sector, and article 12.1 of Law 24/2005, of November 18, which grant the holder of the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge the power to establish the sale tariffs for piped LPG, following an agreement by the Government’s Delegated Commission for Economic Affairs.

The automatic determination system stems from the Order of July 16, 1998, and Order ITC/3292/2008, of November 14: maximum prices result from adding the international LPG quotation and the freight, which are reviewed every month, and the marketing costs, which are updated annually in July. Section eight of the 1998 Order entrusts the General Directorate of Energy Policy and Mines with performing the calculations and publishing the resolutions, which enter into force on the third Tuesday of each month.

The figures: what is increasing and by how much

The approved prices, by supply modality, are as follows:

  • Piped LPG for end users: fixed term of €1.60/month and variable term of 101.8396 c€/kg.
  • Bulk LPG to piped LPG distribution companies: 86.9228 c€/kg.

The variable term thus accumulates an increase of 11.2374 c€/kg compared to September (90.6022 c€/kg) and 11.8371 c€/kg compared to August (90.0025 c€/kg). The transfer price to distributors increases from 75.6854 to 86.9228 c€/kg, an increase of 14.8%.

The origin of the rise lies in the raw materials taken into account for the calculation:

  • International quotation: propane at 668.90 dollars per ton and butane at 750.00 dollars per ton.
  • Freight: 64.00 dollars per ton.
  • Monthly average dollar/euro exchange rate: 1.151323.

In the previous resolution, propane was quoted at 553.30 dollars per ton, butane at 608.00, and freight at 59.80 dollars per ton.

Taxes excluded and billing rules

The published prices do not include current taxes, which are detailed by territorial scope:

  • Mainland Spain and Balearic Islands: Hydrocarbons Tax and Value Added Tax.
  • Canary Islands Archipelago: Special Tax of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands on petroleum-derived fuels and the Canary Islands General Indirect Tax.
  • Cities of Ceuta and Melilla: Tax on production, services, imports, and the complementary levy on fuels and petroleum fuels.

The resolution further specifies that the new prices will apply to supplies pending execution on October 20, 2026, even if the orders are dated earlier. For supplies measured by meter, the billing for the period including that date will be calculated by proportionally dividing the consumption between the preceding and following days, applying the price of the corresponding resolution to each segment. Distributors must adopt the necessary measures to determine the periodic consumption of each customer.

Appeal and Entry into Force

The resolution takes effect from October 20, 2026, and does not exhaust administrative remedies: an administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) may be filed before the Secretary of State for Energy within one month from the day following its publication, in accordance with articles 121 and following of Law 39/2015, of October 1. The document appears signed in Madrid on October 15, 2026, by the Director General of Energy Policy and Mines, Manuel García Hernández.

The price increase directly affects households and homeowners’ associations with piped supply, who will see the hike transferred to their butane and propane bills starting October 20, right at the onset of autumn. The 12.4% increase in the variable term is the most pronounced of the year and is due to the rebound in international quotations for both gases, not a change in marketing costs, which are only reviewed in July.
