The South District announces the XXIII edition of the Alfonso Grosso Award

The Seville City Council, through the South District, has announced the XXIII Edition of the “Alfonso Grosso” Painting Prize 2026, with 4,000 euros in prizes and dedicated to the theme “The Gaze of Your Neighborhood.” The call is published via extract no. 219355 of the resolution of the President of the Municipal Board of the South District no. 5363, dated August 12, 2026, in the Official Gazette of the Province of Seville (no. 161, of August 20, 2026, page 58).

The call, which also approves the associated expenditure, is disseminated in accordance with articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of the General Subsidies Law 38/2003, of November 17, and its full text can be consulted in the National Subsidies Database (BDNS, identifier 925395). The prize pays tribute to the Sevillian painter Alfonso Grosso, a key figure in 20th-century Andalusian art.

Object and participants

The competition invites artists to capture “The Gaze of Your Neighborhood,” a representation reflecting the author’s vision of one of the neighborhoods in the South District of Seville. Any artist over 18 years of age may apply for the prize.

  • Each author shall present an original, unpublished work that has not been previously awarded.
  • The technique to be used shall be free.
  • The theme shall be “The Gaze of Your Neighborhood.”

Submission of works and deadline

Works must be delivered to the Auxiliary Registry of the South District, located at calle Jorge Guillén, s/n (former Catalana de Gas), C.P. 41013 Seville, by prior appointment. For more information, you may call 955472585, 955472587, 955472590, and 955474278.

  • Works sent by courier must be appropriately packaged and sent carriage paid (round trip).
  • The South District is not responsible for packaging or the cost of returning the works.
  • The admission period is open from the day following the publication of the call and will conclude on October 30, 2026.
  • Late submissions will not be accepted, except for those sent by mail whose postmark shows the closing date or an earlier date.

Prizes

The XXIII edition is endowed with 4,000.00 euros, intended to reward the pictorial works selected and designated by the Jury, in order of preference:

  • First prize: 3,000.00 euros.
  • Second prize: 1,000.00 euros.

Cash prizes are indivisible and subject to the tax withholdings established by current legislation. The resolution was signed in Seville on August 17, 2026, by the President of the Municipal Board of the South District, Blanca Gastalver Molina.

The call consolidates an established competition that each year provides visibility to local plastic creation and the neighborhoods of the South District, offering artists over 18 years of age an opportunity for dissemination and economic recognition within the Sevillian pictorial landscape.
