The CPEI opens a 220,000 euro call for applications for volunteer firefighters

The Provincial Consortium for Fire Prevention and Extinction (CPEI) of Badajoz has opened the call for grants for volunteer firefighter groups and associations in the province for the 2026 fiscal year, with an allocation of 220,000 euros under a competitive bidding process. The guidelines and their summary are published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz number 175, dated September 14, 2026, in announcements 3560/2026 and 3567/2026.

The call is part of the 2026 Strategic Grant Plan of the Provincial Council of Badajoz, approved by agreement of the Governing Board on January 30, 2026, and published in the BOP number 32, dated February 18, 2026 (announcement 389/2026). Within Strategic Objective 1, the plan includes the line intended to cover the maintenance and performance costs of the volunteer firefighter service, the management of which corresponds to the CPEI by virtue of the provincial competencies provided for in article 36.1.c) of Law 7/1985, Regulating the Bases of the Local Regime.

Who can apply and deadlines

City councils of municipalities within the territorial scope of the CPEI that have a volunteer firefighter group established within their organic structure may apply, as well as independent non-profit groups or associations dedicated to emergency control or civil protection. The deadline for submitting applications is 15 business days from the publication of the summary in the BOP, and processing is exclusively electronic through the Council’s headquarters (https://sede.dip-badajoz.es).

Entities are classified into two zones for the purpose of credit distribution:

• Zone A (70% of the credit): municipalities such as Garlitos, Capilla, Helechosa de los Montes, Peñalsordo, Monesterio, Navalvillar de Pela, Sancti-Spíritus, Talarrubias, Cabeza del Buey, Castilblanco, Valdecaballeros, Puebla de Alcocer, Siruela, Fuente de Cantos, San Vicente de Alcántara, Salvaleón, Villanueva del Fresno, La Albuera, Barcarrota, Guareña, and Santa Marta de los Barros, among others.
• Zone B (30% of the credit): the remaining groups within the scope of the CPEI.

Evaluation criteria

Applications are scored out of 100 points, with a minimum of 40 required to be a beneficiary, of which at least 20 must correspond to operationality:

• Framework collaboration agreement with the CPEI: 10 points.
• Operational volunteer personnel: up to 15 points.
• Operational activity developed: up to 40 points (number and diversity of interventions).
• Training and prevention: up to 15 points.
• Technical quality and necessity of the project: 20 points.

Eligible expenses and justification

Expenses incurred between April 1, 2026, and March 31, 2027, are eligible for subsidies, with a justification deadline of April 30, 2027. Eligible uses include the acquisition of firefighting and rescue equipment and materials, personal protective equipment, training activities, reimbursements to volunteers for interventions, insurance policies, and the maintenance of premises. The rule of prior payment with subsequent justification via a Simplified Justification Account applies.

The call, identified in the National Grants Database with the code 928351, reinforces the role of volunteer firefighters as a collaborative resource with professional services, which is especially relevant due to their territorial proximity in dozens of municipalities in the province. For local groups, the aid represents an opportunity to renew equipment, train their personnel, and improve the safety of those responding to emergencies.
