The Serra de Tramuntana Consortium announces eight guided crossings of the GR-221

The Serra de Tramuntana Consortium, an entity attached to the Presidency Department of the Consell de Mallorca, has approved the call for the “Dry Stone Route Crossing (GR-221)” program, which provides for the contracting of a professional mountain guiding service to organize, lead, and execute eight guided crossings along the route. The resolution, signed on September 4, 2026, by the vice-president of the consortium, Antoni Fuster Zanoguera, is published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) no. 112, of September 8, 2026, under reference 8974.

A program to disseminate the heritage of the Serra

The call is part of the Management Plan for the cultural landscape of the Serra de Tramuntana, approved by the Consell de Mallorca in 2010, and specifically within its Dissemination Program, which seeks to “know and love the Serra de Tramuntana in order to preserve it.” The program combines guided hiking, interpretive content of an environmental and heritage nature, group dynamics, and practical environmental awareness actions, with the aim of disseminating the ethnological and landscape values of the Dry Stone Route.

The file was initiated with the justificatory necessity report issued on August 3, 2026, by the insular director of the Serra de Tramuntana, and includes the report from the head of the Cultural Sites Management Service, Maria Antònia Beltran Celia, dated September 3. The consortium acts in accordance with its statutes, approved in BOIB no. 72 of May 30, 2019, which enable it to promote and finance services related to the declaration of the mountain range as a world heritage site.

Eight crossings, eight shifts, and twenty places

The program includes two editions, one in the autumn of 2026 and another in the spring of 2027, with four crossings each. Each crossing lasts four consecutive days (from Monday to Thursday) and offers 20 places per shift.

• Autumn 2026: from October 5 to 8, 12 to 15, 19 to 22, and 26 to 29.
• Spring 2027: from April 5 to 8, 12 to 15, 19 to 22, and 26 to 29.

Participants must be over 18 years old, be registered in any municipality of the island of Mallorca, and have the appropriate physical condition for moderate difficulty hiking. People who have already participated in one of the autumn 2026 shifts will not be able to participate in the spring 2027 crossing.

A four-stage itinerary through the network shelters

The crossing follows the GR-221 in four stages, with overnight stays in shelters belonging to the Consell de Mallorca network:

• Day 1: Valldemossa – Muleta (21 km, 8 h 10 min, overnight stay at the Muleta shelter).
• Day 2: Muleta – Tossals Verds (27.7 km, 9 h 05 min, overnight stay at the Tossals shelter).
• Day 3: Tossals Verds – Son Amer (15.1 km, 5 h 35 min, overnight stay at the Son Amer shelter).
• Day 4: Son Amer – Pollença (17.4 km, 4 h 45 min, lunch at the Pont Romà shelter).

The service price is provided under a co-payment scheme with a mixed price: 80% of the price per place is paid by the Consorci Serra de Tramuntana to the awarded company, and the remaining 20% is paid directly by the selected users, with a maximum of €65.66 VAT included. The price includes the service of two guides per shift, three nights’ accommodation in multiple rooms, and meals at the shelters.

Registration by public draw

Pre-registration is formalized using a single application form available on the consortium’s official website (www.serradetramuntana.net) and the electronic office. The deadline for the autumn 2026 shifts opens in September, while for spring 2027 it runs from February 15 to 28. Places are awarded through a public draw via the digital platform www.echaloasuerte.com, and those not selected are placed on a waiting list to cover vacancies.

The call represents an opportunity for Mallorca’s active tourism sector, which sees the consortium outsourcing a specialized guiding service in an environment declared a world heritage site. For citizens, the program offers an accessible and guided way to discover the Dry Stone Route, with a limited cost thanks to institutional co-payment.
