The Menorca Council opens grants for the Arts, Music and Theatre program

The Insular Council of Menorca has published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) the call for grants for the “Menorca, Arts, Music and Theatre” program for the year 2026, with a maximum global budget of €150,000. The call, approved by the Executive Council in an ordinary session on July 27, 2026, is published together with the resolution updating the catalog of participating groups, in issue number 106 of the gazette, dated August 25, 2026.

The objective of the program is the promotion of artistic, musical, and theatrical activity developed by Menorcan artists and groups or those residing on the island, to provide them with a framework to showcase their activity and creativity and to maintain cultural expressions rooted in Menorca. The call is governed by the rules approved by the Executive Council on June 2, 2025, and published in BOIB number 77, dated June 19, 2025.

Beneficiaries and applications

The following entities may apply for the program grant:

• The city councils of Menorca.
• Cultural entities and religious entities.
• Neighborhood associations and homeowners’ associations.
• Retirees’ clubs.
• Parents’ associations (AFA).
• Cultural foundations, both public and private, and those participated in by Menorcan local administrations.
• Associations and groups of merchants at the municipal and insular level.

The deadline for submitting applications is thirty calendar days starting from the day after the publication of the call in the BOIB. Applications can only be processed through the citizen folder of the Insular Council of Menorca.

Limits and conditions of the performances

Each beneficiary may only request two performances per group per year, and the annual limit of performances per group is six. The maximum number of applications varies according to the type of applicant:

• City Councils: 8 applications.
• Cultural entities and foundations: from 3 to 5 applications depending on the number of artistic categories.
• Neighborhood associations: 3 applications.
• Retirees’ clubs and AFA: 2 applications.
• Associations and groups of merchants: 3 applications.

Musical activities, performing arts, visual arts, and other shows offered by the participating groups, artists, and soloists registered in the catalog may be eligible for the grant, provided they take place between January 1 and December 31, 2026, present cultural and artistic interest, are technically and economically viable, and are aimed at a predominantly local audience.

Updated catalog of groups

Resolution No. 136/2026, of August 11, 2026, from the executive counselor of the Department of Culture, Education, Youth and Sports, updates the groups that are part of the program’s catalog, with subsidy amounts ranging from 250 to 700 euros per group. The catalog includes more than 350 entries divided into categories:

• Music (M): more than 220 groups, duos, and soloists.
• Folklore and dance (BT): a dozen folkloric groups.
• Performing arts (AE): nearly 60 theater and circus companies and artists.
• Children’s entertainment (AI): around thirty proposals.
• Visual arts (AV) and others (AL): about twenty additional entries.

The resolution, signed by counselor Juan Domingo Pons Torres, is published together with the call for applications in the BOIB and replaces the list of groups approved in Resolution No. 107/2026, of June 19, regarding the granting of aid for the year 2025.

The call and the resolution, with file number 1507-2026-000002, provide continuity to a consolidated program that supports the cultural activity of the island and which this year expands the catalog of beneficiary groups. For Menorcan city councils, entities, and artists, the opening of the thirty-day deadline represents a new window to finance their performances before a local audience.
