The Governing Council authorizes the Nebrija Nursing Degree in Manacor

The Governing Council of the Balearic Islands authorized on September 18, 2026, the start of activities of the Instituto Nebrija University Center of Mallorca and the teaching of the official programs of the Degree in Nursing (RUCT code 2502438) starting from the 2026-2027 academic year. The agreement, proposed by the Minister of Education and Universities, is published in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands (BOIB) no. 118, of September 22, 2026, under number 9424. The studies will be taught at the premises of Carrer de la Fàbrica, 24, in the city of Manacor.

The decision falls within the exclusive competence of the Autonomous Community regarding university education (article 36.4 of the Statute of Autonomy) and article 96.5 of the Organic Law 2/2023, of March 22, on the university system, which requires private university centers to be affiliated with a public or private university. Article 8.2 of this law and article 27 of Royal Decree 822/2021, of September 28, grant the autonomous community the authority to authorize the implementation of the teaching programs, once the Council of Universities has verified the curriculum.

The Instituto Nebrija University Center of Mallorca is a private center with center code 07009161 in the RUCT, affiliated with the Antonio de Nebrija University (a private university with RUCT code 052, located in Madrid) through an Agreement of the Governing Council of October 3, 2025, published in BOIB no. 133, of October 7, 2025. According to that affiliation agreement, the maximum deadline to request authorization for the center to become operational ended on May 31, 2027.

The curriculum and the places

The approved curriculum has a duration of four courses and a total of 240 credits, with the following distribution:

• 70 credits of basic training.
• 74 credits of compulsory subjects.
• 6 elective credits.
• 80 credits of external internships.
• 10 credits for the final degree project.

The teaching modality is in-person and the number of new admission places requested for the first year is 40. The implementation of the curriculum will begin progressively starting from the 2026-2027 academic year.

Previous reports and degree verification

The file accumulates a chain of favorable reports and requests formalized by the ownership:

• March 25, 2026, the report from the Director General of Universities, Research and Higher Artistic Education on the necessity and academic and social viability of the degree.
• April 20, 2026, the favorable evaluation report from the Fundació per al Coneixement Madri+d regarding the modification of the study plan.
• April 23, 2026, the implementation request submitted by Universitas Nebrissensis, SA (entry registry GOIBE305293/2026).
• May 5, 2026, the approval of the modification of the study plan by the Verification and Accreditation Commission for Study Plans of the University Council.
• July 6, 2026, the request for authorization to start activities (entry registry GOIBE496436/2026).
• September 2, 2026, the favorable report from the Educational Infrastructure Service regarding compliance with the minimum requirements of Royal Decree 640/2021, of July 27.

Health requirements and official notifications

To provide education in the field of health sciences, the center had to prove it had an associated hospital. This requirement was met with the accreditation of Hospital Parque Llevant as an associated hospital for research and teaching, approved by joint resolution of the Minister of Education and Universities and the Minister of Health, published in BOIB no. 117, of September 19, 2026, under number 9294.

The agreement of the Governing Council also orders a series of communications:

• Notification to the Antonio de Nebrija University (Universitas Nebrissensis, SA).
• Notification to the Centro Universitario Instituto Nebrija de Mallorca (Institutos Nebrija, SA).
• Communication to the Autonomous Community of Madrid.
• Communication to the General Conference on University Policy.
• Publication in the Official Gazette of the Balearic Islands.

The agreement is signed by the Secretary of the Governing Council, Antònia Maria Estarellas Torrens, and by the President, Margarita Prohens Rigo.

The measure expands the private university offering in the Balearic Islands and opens a new path for the training of health professionals in Manacor, within a context of healthcare pressure on the health system. For students, it represents an additional official degree place in Nursing with validity throughout the national territory, starting effectively in the 2026-2027 academic year.
