The General Council of Aran approves the Naut Aran 2026/2027 hunting plan

The General Council of Aran has approved the Technical Hunting Management Plan for the Naut Aran Controlled Hunting Zone for the 2026/2027 season, through Resolution 239/2026, of August 24, 2026. The agreement is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Lleida (no. 163, edict 7249, of August 26, 2026, CVE BOP-2026_0_163_7249, pp. 1-13).

The resolution, signed by the Councilor for Territory, Landscape and Climate Change using the powers delegated by the Syndic of Aran, develops Decree 365/2000, of November 7, on the transfer of powers from the Generalitat of Catalonia to the General Council of Aran regarding environmental matters. The plan establishes the harvests, the eligible periods, and the safety and sanitary control conditions for the entire hunting season.

Big game: chamois, roe deer and ungulates

Big game hunting focuses on five species, with free, nominal, non-transferable permits valid for a single day, with a maximum of ten daily permits:

• Chamois (Rupicapra pyrenaica): 30 male specimens, from September 1 to December 1, 2026, stalking only.
• Roe deer (Capreolus capreolus): 20 male specimens, from June 1 to July 15, 2027.
• Red deer (Cervus elaphus): no capture limit, with driven hunts permitted from October 20, 2026.
• Wild boar (Sus scrofa): unlimited, from September 11, 2026 to February 20, 2027, by driven hunt and stalking.
• Fallow deer (Dama dama): unlimited, from September 1, 2026 to February 20, 2027.

For chamois and roe deer, each culled specimen must be sealed with the identification provided by the Hunting and Fishing Society of Naut Aran, and it is mandatory to take a blood sample for the sanitary control of the populations. The permit must be returned to the issuing center within 48 hours following the hunt; failure to do so results in the automatic loss of permits for the following season.

Small game and bans

Small game hunting is open from September 27, 2026 to January 3, 2027, on Wednesdays, Sundays, and holidays, with a maximum of six pieces per hunter per day. Among the authorized species, the grey partridge (maximum of 35 pieces per season), red-legged partridge, quail, woodcock, pheasant, hare, mallard, and marmot stand out, while the heron, wild pigeon, fieldfare, and fox are unlimited.

The plan maintains the hunting ban at MUP no. 300 of Pui d’Unha, between Prat de Che and Còva de Perico, to make the activity compatible with climbing on the via ferrata, and bans small game hunting in the area of Clòt der Angel and the Crèstes des Pales de Ruda.

Safety, sanitary control and prevention

The resolution reinforces security measures: it is mandatory to wear high-visibility clothing (ranging from yellow to red) during hunts, to signpost collective hunts, and to unload weapons upon completion. The use of thermal sights mounted on firearms is prohibited, and the installation of camera traps requires authorization from the landowner and the Conselh Generau d’Aran.

Regarding health matters, a prevention operation for African Swine Fever (ASF) is established, allowing Environmental Agents to reduce the density of wild boar in the perimeter area of the N-230 road, even outside the hunting season. Hunting albino or leucistic specimens, considered of high biological value, as well as female wild boars accompanied by piglets, is also prohibited.

The resolution provides for exceptional authorizations to control damage to agriculture, livestock, or forest lands, as well as the capture of feral domestic pigs and goats that may hybridize with game species.

For hunters in the Val d’Aran, the plan represents a clear framework of nominal permits and sanitary control that guarantees sustainable wildlife management, while introducing security and health prevention restrictions that directly affect the practice of big and small game hunting throughout the season.
