The Regional Council announces 16,000 euros for culture and sports
Por FactBox Admin

The Bierzo Regional Council has opened the call for grants to promote cultural and sporting activities in the region during 2026, with a budget of 16,000 euros and based on a competitive bidding process. The agreement was adopted by the Governing Board of the regional body on October 23, 2026, and its summary is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of León no. 204, dated October 27, 2026, with the reference BOP-LE-2026-204017. Interested associations will have only ten business days to submit their application.
The call is supported by articles 17.3.b and 20.8.a of the General Grants Law 38/2003, of November 17, and is integrated into the Regional Council’s Strategic Grants Plan for the 2026-2027 financial years, approved by the Plenary on July 28, 2026, and published in the Official Gazette of the Province no. 147, dated August 5, as well as in the regional General Grants Ordinance (no. 190, of October 4, 2016). The summary is identified by number BDNS 937635 and file 2026/1351; the full text is available in the National Grants Database and on the Regional Council’s electronic office.
The body justifies this line of aid based on the competencies in matters of culture and sport recognized by article 4, letters f) and g), of Law 1/1991, of March 14, which creates and regulates the Comarca del Bierzo. The global credit appears in the General Budget of the Regional Council for 2026. The same provincial gazette also includes the public exhibition of the regional body’s 2020 General Account (BOP-LE-2026-204016), which integrates the accounts of the Tourism Board, the Ponfeblino Tourist Train Consortium, and the Ancares Leoneses Biosphere Reserve Consortium.
Non-profit associations based in Bierzo
Only private non-profit associations may apply, provided they are not subject to the circumstances provided for in article 13 of the General Grants Law and have their registered office within the Comarca del Bierzo.
The essential requirements are:
- Private non-profit entity.
- Registered office within the territorial scope of the region.
- Absence of prohibitions from being a beneficiary of public grants.
A single activity per entity
The call finances the preparation and organization of cultural or sporting activities developed in the Comarca del Bierzo, provided they satisfy a public utility or a social interest of regional scope. Only a single activity per applicant association may be financed, even if that activity takes place over several days or in different locations, always within the eligible period and the fixed territorial scope.
Activities that, due to their content, purpose, organization, or development, are contrary to the values and principles of the Spanish Constitution—particularly the dignity of the person, equality, and non-discrimination—as well as those that promote any form of discrimination, intolerance, hatred, or exclusion based on sex, sexual orientation or identity, racial or ethnic origin, nationality, religion, or disability, are expressly excluded.
Ten business days and electronic application
The submission period is ten business days from the publication of the call in the Official Gazette of the Province of León. Processing is mandatory via electronic means, through the Registry of the Comarcal Council, using the duly completed model in Annex I.
The required documentation is as follows:
- Statutes of the association.
- Tax Identification Number (N.I.F.) card of the association.
- Report on the activity for which the grant is requested.
- Detailed budget of the activity.
- Responsible declaration from Annex II.
- Certificate from Annex III regarding evaluable criteria.
If the application does not meet the requirements, the entity will be requested to rectify the deficiencies within five business days, with the warning that failure to do so will be considered a withdrawal of the application. The agreement is signed in Ponferrada on October 23, 2026, by the president of the Comarcal Council of El Bierzo, Olegario Ramón Fernández.
Impact on the regional associative fabric
The call arrives with an especially tight schedule: ten business days from this very publication leave a minimum margin for the associations of El Bierzo to gather statutes, reports, budgets, and certificates. With 16,000 euros in credit and only one grantable activity per entity, the distribution will be competitive and will depend on the evaluation criteria of Annex III; therefore, the cultural and sports entities of the region face a brief but decisive window to finance their 2026 programming.
