The Cabildo de Tenerife announces three vacancies for Chemical Analysis

The Island Council of Tenerife has approved the public call to fill, as a career civil servant and through the open access track, three positions for Higher Grade Technician in Chemical Analysis. The resolution, dated August 26, 2026, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife number 106, dated September 4, 2026, with reference 1787331.

The positions, vacant within the civil servant staff, are called for in execution of the Public Employment Offers of the Island Corporation for 2024 and 2026. They are classified under Group A, Subgroup A1, Special Administration Scale, Special Services Subscale, category of Higher Technicians, and their selection is governed by the competition-examination system.

The positions and their functions

For informative and illustrative purposes, the functions of the position include the management, study, reporting, and proposal in matters of their technical qualification, with special attention to enological projects and wine-growing plans, enology and differentiated quality, and agri-food analyses. They also encompass quality systems in laboratories according to the corresponding UNE standard, as well as functions typical of managing technicians in the preparation and management of plans, programs, or investment projects.

Requirements and examination fees

Those aspiring to the positions must meet the following requirements by the end of the application submission period:

• Be Spanish or a national of a European Union member state or assimilated, with adequate knowledge of Spanish.
• Be at least sixteen years of age and not exceed the maximum compulsory retirement age.
• Hold a degree as a Graduate in Chemistry, Food Science and Technology, Chemical Engineer, Pharmacy, or Biotechnology, or an equivalent university degree.
• Possess a valid B driving license and the functional capacity to perform the tasks.

The examination fees amount to 23 euros, with exemptions for people with a disability of 33% or more, job seekers under the provided conditions, and members of large families. Applications shall be submitted electronically via the Council’s electronic office within a period of twenty business days starting from the publication of the announcement in the Official State Gazette.

The selection process

The system will be a competition-examination, with a maximum score of 10 points (6 from the examination phase and 4 from the competition phase). The examination phase consists of two mandatory and eliminatory exercises:

• First exercise, theoretical: multiple-choice questionnaire of 140 questions (135 ordinary and 5 reserve), with a duration of 154 minutes and a weight of 30%.
• Second exercise, theoretical-practical: written resolution of two practical cases to be chosen from four, in a maximum of three hours, with a weight of 70%.

The competition phase evaluates the professional and academic merits of those who pass the competitive examination. Those who pass will be appointed as trainee civil servants and, after completing a training period of six months, as career civil servants.

Syllabus and Calendar

The rules incorporate the complete syllabus in Annex II, with 90 topics distributed into common subjects (18 topics, including the Constitution, the Statute of Autonomy of the Canary Islands, the Insular Councils, and administrative procedure) and specific subjects (72 topics), covering analytical methods, chromatography, spectrometry, laboratory management, the UNE-EN ISO/IEC 17025:2017 standard, and the analysis of food, wines, vinegars, honey, and olive oil. The provisional list of admitted and excluded candidates will be published within a maximum period of one month after the closing of applications.

The call for applications strengthens the Cabildo’s technical staff in a strategic area for the island, linked to the insular laboratories and the agri-food and wine sector of Tenerife. For the candidates, it represents an opportunity for stable access to public employment with a syllabus already published and a defined calendar.
