El Cabildo de Tenerife convoca 900.000 euros para las escuelas de música y danza

The Island Council of Tenerife has announced 900,000 euros in grants intended to finance the operating expenses of the island’s Music and Dance Schools during the 2025-2026 academic year. The Island Government Council approved the general bases and the call for applications on October 7, 2026, through agreement AC0000028527, and the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands no. 214, dated October 26, 2026, publishes the full announcement and its summary. Interested parties have 20 calendar days from the day following the publication of the summary to submit their applications.

Regulatory Framework and Purpose

The bases are supported by Law 38/2003, of November 17, General Law on Subsidies, and its regulation approved by Royal Decree 887/2006, of July 21, as well as Law 11/2009, of December 11, of the Canary Islands Public Treasury, Decree 36/2009, of March 31, and the General Subsidy Ordinance of the Island Council of Tenerife. The corporation exercises its competence in culture as an institution of the Autonomous Community in accordance with Law 3/2026, of June 16, of Island Councils.

The stated objective is to “contribute to the maintenance of the quality and instrumental variety of non-regulated musical education.” Operating expenses are considered to be the salary costs of teachers of authorized specialties and the administrative staff of each school. The grants are compatible with other subsidies or income from public administrations or private entities for the same purpose.

Requirements and Beneficiaries

Publicly owned music and dance schools that meet these conditions may apply for the grants:

  • Be created and authorized under Decree 179/1994, of July 29, regulating Music and Dance Schools of the Government of the Canary Islands.
  • Be operational and have provided classes during the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • Prove compliance with tax obligations to the State, the General Treasury of the Social Security, the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, and the council itself.
  • Not have received other aid for the same purpose nor be disqualified from receiving grants from the council.

The call is listed in the National Subsidy Database with the identifier BDNS 934643.

Distribution of the 900,000 Euros

The credit is assigned to the budgetary application 26.0801.3342.46240 and is distributed using a mixed system of fixed amounts and pro-rating:

  • 20,000 euros for each entity that has had regular activity during the 2025-2026 academic year.
  • An additional 10,000 euros for each municipality with a stable headquarters and regular classes, up to a maximum of two.
  • A variable amount calculated based on the number of students enrolled in instrumental practice and the hired teaching staff.

The primary criterion is students of symphonic music, piano, guitar, and singing specialties, as well as modern and popular music instruments. The weekly ratio of classes per teacher must be between 2.4 and 6 hours (between 1.7 and 6 in the case of piano); every tenth of deviation is corrected with up to 3 points based on the number of students. Three limits are established: no application may receive more than 40% of the certified salary expenses, public price income plus the subsidy may not exceed 75% of those expenses, and no aid shall exceed 20% of the total allocation.

Deadline, processing, and resolution

The submission period is 20 calendar days starting from the day following the publication of the summary, therefore extending until November 15, 2026. The application is completed at the electronic office https://sede.tenerife.es, under the procedure “Subsidies for the operation of the Music and Dance Schools of Tenerife (2025-2026 academic year)”, and must be accompanied by the documentation from clause 5, including certificates of activity, specialties, teaching staff, enrolled students, and salary expenses between September 1, 2025, and August 31, 2026.

The instruction corresponds to the Administrative Service of Culture and the assessment to a Valuation Commission chaired by the Insular Councilor for Culture, Museums, and Sports, with the Head of the Organic Unit of Culture, the Head of the Technical Section of Culture, two technicians, and the Head of the Administrative Service of Culture as secretary. The Insular Director of Culture, Matías Conrado Álvarez Fariña, will resolve it within a maximum period of six months, with negative administrative silence. Payment is made once the procedure is resolved, as the amounts are understood to be justified by the operational certificate of the course.

The call arrives with the 2025-2026 academic year already concluded and with municipal schools pending the coverage of their salary costs, so the resolution calendar—up to six months—conditions the treasury of centers that sustain non-regulated music education in the municipalities of the island.
