The Cabildo de Tenerife opens 280,000 euros for sports travel

Por FactBox Admin

The Island Council of Tenerife has published the call for grants, under a competitive bidding process, to help federations, clubs, and individual athletes from the island cover travel expenses for official national and international competitions. The allocation amounts to 280,000 euros and the application period runs from September 2 to 22, 2026. The call is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, number 104, dated August 31, 2026.

The agreement was adopted by the Insular Government Council of the Island Council of Tenerife on August 5, 2026, and covers travel carried out between June 1 and August 31, 2026. The credit is divided into two budget applications: 220,000 euros (26.0811.3411.48940) and 60,000 euros (26.0811.3411.48140), with identifier BDNS 926476.

Who can apply

Beneficiaries may be entities and athletes who prove their participation in official competitions recognized by the Higher Sports Council:

  • Tenerife sports clubs registered in the Registry of Sports Entities of the Canary Islands.
  • Canarian or Tenerife island federations; in the case of Canarian ones, only athletes residing in Tenerife.
  • Individual athletes residing in Tenerife, including minors and people with a disability of 33% or higher.

Sports Public Limited Companies (Sociedades Anónimas Deportivas) and professional competitions such as LaLiga, ACB, LPFF, or ASOBAL are excluded, except for reserve teams in youth categories.

Destinations and amounts

The aid is calculated based on the location of the event, the number of people traveling, and the days of effective participation:

  • National module (70 €): competitions in the Peninsula, Balearic Islands, Ceuta, and Melilla, and travel between islands for final phases of Spanish, European, or World Championships.
  • International module (100 €): competitions in foreign countries.
  • Maximum of 18 people traveling per team, including technical staff and delegates.
  • Additional module for the transport of heavy sports equipment (70 € or 100 € per package).

Deadlines and processing

Applications shall be submitted using the official form of the Island Council of Tenerife, one for each trip made during the eligible period:

  • Submission period: from September 2 to 22, 2026.
  • Clubs and federations (legal entities) must process through the electronic office (sede.tenerife.es).
  • Individual athletes may do so electronically or in person.
  • The maximum period for resolution and notification is six months.

The granting resolution corresponds to the Councilor with Delegation in Sports, María Yolanda Moliné Rodríguez, who signed the guidelines on August 26, 2026.

Impact

With this line, the Cabildo Insular de Tenerife reinforces support for grassroots and competitive sports on the island, alleviating the cost of travel outside the Canary Islands, an expense that is particularly burdensome for island clubs and athletes. The call, based on competitive bidding, also allows for the credit to be extended by up to 50% if budget availability exists, which expands the scope of the aid for the next season.
