The General Directorate of Energy Policy and Mines has published in the Official State Gazette the resolution setting the new maximum sale price of bottled commercial butane at 123.4447 cts.€/kg, before taxes. The price will come into effect at 00:00 hours on September 15, 2026, and will apply throughout Spanish territory to supplies pending execution on that date. The regulation appears in issue number 227 of the BOE, dated September 14, 2026, with reference BOE-A-2026-19115.
The revision responds to the automatic price determination system established by Order IET/389/2015, of March 5, as amended by Order TED/211/2025, of March 4. According to article 3.5, maximum prices are reviewed every two months and take effect from the third Tuesday of the month in which the review is carried out. The resolution, signed on September 8 by the Director General, Manuel García Hernández, also incorporates the contribution cost to the National Energy Efficiency Fund into the calculation formula.
Scope of Application
The measure affects commercial butane bottled in containers with a load equal to or greater than 8 kg and less than 20 kg, with the following specifications:
- Mixture containers for uses of liquefied petroleum gases as fuel are excluded.
- It does not apply to butane in containers with a tare weight less than or equal to 9 kg, except for exceptions for wholesale operators with home supply obligations.
- It also does not apply to bottled commercial propane.
- The authorities of the Canary Islands, Ceuta, and Melilla may vary the marketing costs upwards or downwards.
Price Composition
The maximum price without taxes is broken down into several parameters calculated for the 2026/5 bimonthly period. The marketing cost remains at 60.8099 cts.€/kg, while the raw material cost amounts to 56.0055 cts.€/kg and the contribution to the National Energy Efficiency Fund to 3.0795 cts.€/kg. The theoretical tax-free price for the bimonthly period stands at 119.8949 cts.€/kg, increased to the final value by the adjustment term, which in this review reaches +29.1263 cts.€/kg. For the next bimonthly review, the projected adjustment is +15.8822 cts.€/kg.
Appeal and Validity
The resolution will take effect from September 15, 2026. An administrative appeal (recurso de alzada) may be filed against it before the Secretary of State for Energy within one month from the day following its publication, in accordance with articles 121 and following of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on Common Administrative Procedure.
The increase in bottled butane, an essential supply for millions of Spanish households that do not have access to a piped gas network, will have a direct impact on domestic energy expenditure. As this is a bimonthly review, the price will be updated again in the next review window; therefore, consumers should stay alert to the successive resolutions published in the BOE.
