The City Council of El Burgo de Osma - Ciudad de Osma has announced the VI Window Dressing Competition, with Christmas as the mandatory theme, by agreement of the Local Government Board dated October 7, 2026. The call for entries is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Soria on Wednesday, October 14, 2026 (no. 118), with the registration period open until November 27. Participating shop windows must remain on display to the public between December 1, 2026, and January 7, 2027, both dates inclusive.
The initiative, promoted by the Department of Culture and Tourism, aims to “boost and promote local commerce” in the town and beautify its streets during the Christmas holidays, generating a “call effect” to attract residents and visitors from other municipalities. The extract of the agreement occupies pages 3483 to 3487 of the provincial gazette, with the official reference BOPSO-118-14102026 and document number 1868, and is registered in the National Grants Database under the code BDNS: 934631.
The call is announced in accordance with article 17.3.b) of Law 38/2003, General Law on Subsidies, and is incorporated into the National Advertising System for Subsidies. The full rules and the registration form (Annex I) are available on the municipal electronic office, www.burgodeosma.com. The agreement is signed by the mayor, Antonio Pardo Capilla.
Conditions and recipients
Small and medium-sized businesses and catering establishments with a physical store open to the public located within the municipal boundaries of El Burgo de Osma - Ciudad de Osma may apply, provided they have shop windows visible to passers-by. Small and medium-sized commerce is understood as the buying and selling of goods or services on a small scale, such as neighborhood shops, as opposed to large retail stores; a catering establishment is understood as a premises that serves food and drinks for consumption on-site or for takeout.
Two requirements are mandatory:
- To be up to date with tax obligations, including those of Social Security, the AEAT (Spanish Tax Agency), and the City Council itself.
- To submit the application using the official Annex I form, completed and signed, at the municipal registry office.
A photocopy of the current NIF or NIE of the business representative and a bank document containing the IBAN code and the name of the account holder must be attached to the form.
Deadlines, jury, and criteria
The registration period begins the day following the publication of the summary in the BOP de Soria and ends on November 27, 2026. Once closed, the Department of Culture and Tourism will verify the applications and grant a maximum period of three business days to correct any detected defects; failure to do so will result in the application being excluded.
The jury will visit the participating establishments between December 4 and 10, 2026, and will draw up a record of the scores. The evaluation criteria, each scoreable from 1 to 10 points, are:
- Composition of the window display, integrating the establishment’s products or services into the traditional Burgense atmosphere.
- Creativity and originality of the Christmas-themed setup.
- Visual impact to attract customer attention.
- Use of recyclable and sustainable materials.
In the event of a tie, the scores obtained in each of these four sections will be considered successively and, if the tie persists, it will be resolved by draw. The verdict will be announced in April and communicated to the participants.
Prizes and funding
The contest distributes a total of 1,150 euros, charged to budget allocation 2026.334.48006 of the 2026 expenditure budget:
- First prize: 600 euros and a commemorative trophy for the best window display in the town.
- Second prize: 350 euros and a commemorative trophy.
- Third prize: 200 euros and a commemorative trophy.
Award-winning establishments must place the trophy in a visible location within their premises, and all participants will appear in the media outlets determined by the City Council. The award ceremony will be held in a public act, the date and location of which will be communicated in due course.
The call for entries comes at a key moment for small businesses and the hospitality industry of El Burgo de Osma - Ciudad de Osma, sectors that face the Christmas campaign with their window decorations as the main street attraction. The competition, now in its sixth edition, reinforces the tourist appeal of the municipality and offers local establishments a direct economic incentive, as well as media visibility, during the year’s period of highest commercial activity.
