Por FactBox Admin

The Official State Gazette publishes this Tuesday, October 13, 2026, the list of public holidays for the year 2027, submitted by the seventeen autonomous communities and the cities of Ceuta and Melilla. The Directorate General of Labor, under the Ministry of Labor and Social Economy, signs the Resolution of October 8, 2026 (reference BOE-A-2026-21254), which establishes both the common calendar and the specific holidays for each territory.
The publication is based on article 45.4 of Royal Decree 2001/1983, of July 28, as amended by Royal Decree 1346/1989, of November 3, which mandates the publication of the holidays communicated by the communities. The text recalls that article 45.1 distinguishes between non-substitutable national holidays and those that communities may exchange for other traditional ones, and that article 37.2 of the Workers’ Statute allows for the addition of one more holiday, on a recoverable basis, up to a maximum of fourteen.
Article 46 of the same royal decree adds up to two local holiday days per municipality, which are published in the official gazette of the autonomous community or the province. The resolution bears the signature of the Director General of Labor, María Nieves González García, and occupies pages 136413 to 136417 of section I of BOE number 254.
A national calendar of eleven common days
The annex marks eight holidays as non-substitutable national holidays, present in the nineteen territories:
- January 1 (Friday): New Year’s Day.

- November 1 (Monday): All Saints’ Day.
- December 6 (Monday): Constitution Day.
- December 8 (Wednesday): Immaculate Conception.
- December 25 (Saturday): Christmas Day.
To these are added three national holidays for which the communities have not exercised the power of substitution: the Epiphany of the Lord (January 6, Wednesday), Maundy Thursday (March 25, Thursday), and the Monday following the Assumption (August 16). Easter Monday, March 29, appears as a regional holiday in six communities.
The specific holidays of each community
The annex details the celebrations of regional scope, among which are:
- Andalucía: March 1, Day of Andalucía (Monday).

The text also includes other regional holidays, such as Saint Joseph (March 19), maintained in five communities, Corpus Christi (May 27), and Saint John’s Day (June 24).
Ceuta, Melilla and island exceptions
The two autonomous cities incorporate festivities from their own tradition: Eid al-Fitr, on March 10, and Eid al-Adha, on May 17. The annex includes two clarifying notes for singular cases.
- Canarias: Decree 115/2026, of June 29 (BOC of July 3, 2026), establishes island holidays: El Hierro, September 24 (Our Lady of the Kings); Fuerteventura, September 17 (Our Lady of the Rock); Gran Canaria, September 8 (Our Lady of the Pine); La Gomera, October 4 (Our Lady of Guadalupe); La Palma, August 5 (Our Lady of the Snows); Lanzarote and La Graciosa, September 15 (Our Lady of the Volcanoes); and Tenerife, February 2 (Virgin of Candelaria).
- Cataluña: Order EMT/52/2026, of March 25 (DOGC of April 1, 2026), establishes that in the territory of Arán, the holiday of March 29 (Pasqua Florida) is replaced by that of June 17 (Feast of Arán), Thursday.
The 2027 calendar combines eleven national holidays with the holidays of each community, to which each municipality may add up to two local days. For companies, the annex is the reference for setting shifts, closures, and annual working day calculations; for workers, it determines long weekends and vacation planning. The resolution reminds that local holidays will be published in the official bulletin of the corresponding autonomous community or province.
