El Barraco opens period to retrieve belongings from the burned camping site

The El Barraco City Council has established an extraordinary period for campers affected by the fire recorded on July 24 at the municipal campsite to enter the premises and retrieve burnt remains and personal belongings. The measure, adopted via Mayoral Resolution, was made public through an announcement in the Official Gazette of the Province of Ávila, number 175, dated September 10, 2026.

Access will be concentrated exclusively on September 18, 19, and 20, 2026, from 10:00 to 14:00 hours. For strict security reasons, campers must be accompanied at all times by technical staff and operators from the City Council.

Period and conditions of access

The removal of belongings will be limited to three consecutive days, with a fixed schedule of four hours per day. The announcement emphasizes that entry to the premises will only be possible within this time window, with no other time slots considered.

To gain access, interested parties must prove their right to the contracted plot. The procedure requires the submission of the corresponding authorization request along with supporting documentation of the occupation of the affected plot.

The authorization forms and complementary information are available to interested parties on the Notice Board of the Electronic Office of the City Council. The necessary forms to formalize the request before the specified dates can be downloaded there.

The announcement, signed in El Barraco on September 7, 2026, by the mayor, José María Manso González, does not detail the number of plots or campers affected by the disaster, but urges those affected to process the authorization in advance.

Context of the disaster

The fire on July 24 affected the facilities of the El Barraco municipal campsite, a tourist and recreational facility in the region. Since then, the premises have remained closed pending damage assessment and the removal of debris.

The establishment of this extraordinary period responds to the need for users to recover their personal belongings under safe conditions, once the stability of the affected area has been guaranteed.
