Two municipalities in Burgos call for justice of the peace positions

The city councils of Villaquirán de la Puebla and Villambistia have opened separate public calls to fill the positions of justice of the peace for their respective courts, as published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Burgos number 165, dated September 1, 2026. In the first municipality, both the position of titular justice of the peace and that of substitute are called for, while in the second, only the titular position.

Both calls are processed in section III of Local Administration of the gazette and are addressed to the residents of each locality, who must submit their application at the town hall within the established deadlines.

Two calls, two deadlines

In Villaquirán de la Puebla, as the mandates of the titular and substitute justices of the peace are nearing their end, the announcement was signed on August 26, 2026, by the mayor, Ángel Antón Delgado. The deadline for submitting applications is one month starting from the day following the publication of the announcement in the gazette.

In Villambistia, the call was signed on August 20, 2026, by the mayor, Benito Puras Pérez, and the deadline is fifteen business days from the day following its publication.

Requirements and documentation

Applicants must meet the general requirements demanded by the Organic Law of the Judiciary:

• Be Spanish and a resident of the calling municipality.
• Be of legal age.
• Not be subject to the causes of incapacity, incompatibility, or prohibition provided for in articles 101, 102, 389, and 395 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary and in the Regulation of Justices of the Peace 3/1995, of June 7.

In the case of Villambistia, it is additionally required to meet the requirements for entry into the judicial career, except for those derived from age retirement when it does not imply a physical or psychological impediment to the position.

The application must be accompanied by a copy of the identity document and a sworn statement that the applicant is not subject to the causes of incompatibility or prohibition. The requests are submitted to the Secretariat of the City Council of Villambistia and the City Council of Villaquirán de la Puebla, respectively.

An opportunity for local public employment

These calls represent a pathway to public employment within the scope of the administration of justice for residents of two small municipalities in the province of Burgos. The figure of the justice of the peace—a non-professional body that exercises jurisdictional functions in municipalities where no court of first instance exists—guarantees the proximity of justice to the citizen.

Filling these positions is essential for the normal functioning of the local justices of the peace courts, which handle low-value matters and conciliation acts, and reinforces the presence of the administration of justice in the rural areas of Burgos.
