Deputies enroll 475 years of the University of Mexico in Golden Letters

The Chamber of Deputies will inscribe in gold letters on the Wall of Honor of the Session Hall the legend “475 Years of the University of Mexico (1551-2026)”, according to the decree published in the Official Gazette of the Federation on Wednesday, September 23, 2026 (No. 258/2026, p. 88). The instrument was signed in the Session Hall of the Chamber of Deputies of the Honorable Congress of the Union on September 14, 2026, and entered into force at the moment of its approval by the Plenary.

The decree was issued based on fraction I of Article 77 of the Political Constitution of the United Mexican States, which empowers each of the chambers of the Congress of the Union to issue the resolutions corresponding to their internal regime. The text appears in the Legislative Power section of the issue, under the seal with the National Shield that identifies the United Mexican States and the Federal Legislative Power, and shares the edition with acts from other agencies and bodies of the Mexican State.

The content of the decree

The Sole Article orders the inscription of the legend on the Wall of Honor of the Session Hall. The time reference 1551-2026 corresponds to the 475 years that the decree itself attributes to the University of Mexico, such that the commemoration is fixed in the official text and not in a separate recital.

The document is limited to that sole article and three transitory provisions:

• First. The decree enters into force at the moment of its approval by the Plenary of the Chamber of Deputies.
• Second. It must be published in the Parliamentary Gazette of the Chamber of Deputies and in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
• Third. The governing bodies of the Chamber of Deputies will define the date and the protocol to be carried out to comply with the Sole Article.

Immediate validity and pending protocol

Unlike other regulations that defer their entry into force to determined terms, this decree operates immediately: its validity was tied to the moment of approval by the Plenary. The publication ordered in the Parliamentary Gazette and in the Official Gazette of the Federation serves the function of official dissemination of the legislative agreement.

The operational part remains pending. The governing bodies of the Chamber of Deputies will be those to determine the date and protocol of the inscription, without the decree setting a specific deadline for the placement of the letters or for the corresponding ceremony.

The signatories of the decree

The instrument is signed by the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Deputies:

• Rep. Raúl Bolaños-Cacho Cué, President.
• Rep. Francisco Amadeo Espinosa Ramos, Secretary.

Both signatures appear with their rubric and the date of September 14, 2026, in Mexico City.

The inscription in Gold Letters is a high-profile symbolic recognition that places the University of Mexico in the venue where the Chamber of Deputies meets, with the commemoration of 475 years as its core.
