Provincial Council of Castellón approves extraordinary credit of €10.3 million
Por FactBox Admin

The Provincial Council of Castellón has made final the file No. 4/2026 for the budget modification incorporating extraordinary credits for a total amount of €10,301,550 into the General Provincial Budget. The final approval is set out in the edict published in Official Bulletin of the Province of Castellón (BOP) No. 98, corresponding to 15 August 2026, in the Local Administration section.
The process began with the initial approval by the Plenary of the Provincial Council, at its ordinary session held on 14 July 2026. The agreement was subsequently published in BOP No. 85 of 16 July 2026, so that interested parties could lodge claims within the corresponding legal period. As no claims were submitted during that period, the file has been raised to final status, in accordance with Article 177.2 of Royal Legislative Decree 2/2004, of 5 March, approving the Consolidated Text of the Regulatory Law on Local Government Finances.
Financing
All of the extraordinary credits are financed from the treasury surplus, included under Chapter 8 of Financial Assets of the provincial budget:
- Treasury surplus (Ch. 8 — Financial assets): €10,301,550.00
- Total financing: €10,301,550.00
Destination of the credits
The approved funds are allocated to two specific purposes within the increases in credits through extraordinary credits:
- Current transfers (Ch. 4): €8,050.00
- Capital transfers (Ch. 7): €10,293,500.00
- Total increases: €10,301,550.00
Virtually all of the credit —99.92%— is channelled through capital transfers, indicating that the budget items correspond mainly to investments or allocations of resources intended for non-current expenditure, such as subsidies to other public entities, investment in infrastructure or capital endowments for the province.
Appeals and signature of the edict
An administrative contentious appeal may be lodged against the final approval of this file before the High Court of Justice of the Valencian Community, within two months from the day following publication of the edict in the BOP.
The edict is signed in Castellón de la Plana on 10 August 2026 by:
- Marta Barrachina Mateu, President of the Provincial Council of Castellón
- Manuel Pesudo Esteve, Secretary General
Impact for the province
This agreement reinforces the investment capacity of the Provincial Council of Castellón for the current fiscal year. The approved capital transfers will provide direct resources for the municipalities and entities of the province that benefit from the calls linked to these budget items, potentially accelerating investment projects and facilities planned in local budgets. Contracting companies in the provincial area will also see an expanded market of opportunities associated with these public investments.
