Badajoz Provincial Council opens grants for peri-urban parks in the province

The Provincial Council of Badajoz, through its Functional Area of Environmental Sustainability, Energy, and Green Territory, has approved the regulatory bases for the call for grants to boost the peri-urban conservation and leisure parks of the province, with a total allocation of 210,000 euros. The resolution, signed by the delegated deputy Raúl Jareño Crespo, is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Badajoz number 168, dated September 2, 2026, via announcements 3406/2026 (bases) and 3455/2026 (extract of the call).

The grant line, incorporated into the Strategic Subsidy Plan of the Provincial Council of Badajoz for 2026, finances actions for the remodeling, equipping, maintenance, and revitalization of these spaces, which the Nature Conservation and Natural Spaces Law of Extremadura defines as areas close to population centers where nature conservation and socio-recreational use are combined. There are seven spaces declared under this figure in the province, six of them in municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants.

Beneficiaries and distribution of funds

Municipalities with fewer than 20,000 inhabitants that hold a declared peri-urban park may be beneficiaries, under a non-competitive concurrence regime, with equal distribution of 35,000 euros per municipality, regardless of its population. The six municipalities and their parks are:

• Azuaga — Finca La Sierra
• Navalvillar de Pela — Dehesa de Moheda Alta
• Cabeza la Vaca — La Pisá del Caballo
• Maguilla — Los Baselisos
• La Albuera — El Chaparral
• Berlanga — Las Quinientas

The amount is distributed between chapter 4 (maintenance and revitalization), with 126,000 euros, and chapter 7 (equipping and infrastructure), with 84,000 euros, although municipalities may propose a different distribution between both chapters without exceeding the assigned amount.

Eligible actions

Eligible expenses are structured into two blocks. The maintenance and revitalization chapter includes the maintenance of recreational areas, trails, and supply facilities, cleaning and waste management, as well as environmental education activities, guided tours, workshops, and volunteering days. The investment chapter includes the construction or rehabilitation of trails, the improvement of access and parking, furniture, interpretive signage, and renewable energy or rainwater harvesting facilities.

New construction works, the acquisition of vehicles, actions outside the park perimeter, and ordinary operating expenses not linked to its management are excluded. Payments must be made by bank transfer or another traceable means; cash payments are prohibited.

Deadlines and processing

Applications must be submitted through the electronic office of the Provincial Council (sede.dip-badajoz.es) within 20 calendar days from the publication of the summary in the BOP via the National Grants Database (BDNS), with identifier 926955. The resolution is the responsibility of the delegated deputy of the area, within a maximum period of three months from the end of the submission period. The justification of the actions must be submitted by September 30, 2027, with the possibility of extending the execution period until December 31, 2027.

The call contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda, particularly SDG 11 (sustainable cities and communities), SDG 13 (climate action), SDG 15 (life on land), and SDG 4 (quality education), in coherence with the II Provincial Strategy for Sustainable Development 2024-2027. With this line, the Provincial Council reinforces its role in assisting municipalities to preserve natural and recreational heritage of singular value, which also acts as a climate refuge against the effects of climate change.
