The process to renew the titular justice of the peace is underway

The City Council of Das has initiated the procedures for the appointment of the titular justice of the peace of the municipality, according to the announcement published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Girona (BOP) number 186, dated September 28, 2026. The chosen person will be elected by the Plenary of the corporation by an absolute majority of its members. Interested parties have 15 business days to submit their application.

The renewal of the position is framed within article 5.1 of Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, regarding justices of the peace, and responds to the communication from the Government Secretary of the High Court of Justice of Catalonia dated September 2, 2026, with entry registry number E2026000962. The file, referenced as X2026000348, was activated by mayoral decree 2026DECR000167, of September 16, 2026, signed by Mayor Enric Laguarda Pons.

The announcement is published on page 1 of the BOP, with edict number 8252 and official reference BOP-2026_0_186_8252, and the document was electronically signed by the mayor on September 16, 2026. This procedure is added to other similar processes opened in recent months in the Girona district, such as those of Sant Julià de Ramis (file X2026001494) and Vilallonga de Ter (file X2026000294), derived from the end of the incumbents’ mandates or the need to fill the positions.

Requirements to be a candidate

To be eligible for election, applicants must meet the following conditions:

• Hold Spanish nationality.
• Be of legal age.
• Not incur any of the causes of incapacity or incompatibility provided for in article 303 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary.

Submission of applications

Interested parties must submit an application accompanied by a sworn statement before the general registry of the City Council, located at the Town Hall, Pg. Rossend Arús, 3. Submission can be made in person or by any of the means provided for in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the common administrative procedure of public administrations.

Applications must be addressed to the Hon. Mr. Mayor President of the Corporation and must include the applicant’s information regarding their capacity and compatibility to hold the office.

Deadline and election

The submission period opens the day after the publication of the call in the BOP and closes 15 business days later. Once the candidacies have been collected, the Plenary must vote on them and appoint the person who obtains the favorable vote of the absolute majority of its members.

The appointment of the titular justice of the peace is a relevant piece in the judicial organization of the municipalities, and the process open in Das allows residents to submit their candidacy during the 15 business days following the publication of the announcement. The final decision will correspond to the Plenary, which must ratify the candidate with an absolute majority.
