Danish justice minister appoints five new lawyers in four towns

Justitsministeren appointed five law graduates as advokater on 20 October 2026, and the decisions were published in Statstidende on 22 October 2026. The five notices appear in the gazette’s appointments and dismissals section under references S20102026-276, S19102026-62, S13102026-76, S13102026-39 and S13102026-31. Each notice records the minister’s decision, the lawyer’s name, the title cand.jur. and the town in which the appointment is registered.

The title of advokat is a protected Danish professional title conferred by the justice minister, and each appointment is announced individually in Statstidende rather than in a consolidated list. The notices follow a fixed template: a single sentence stating that the minister “har den 20.10.2026 beskikket nedennævnte som advokat”, followed by the name, the academic degree and a municipality. No case numbers, firm affiliations or declared practice areas are given in any of the five entries.

Copenhagen accounts for two of the five, with the remaining three registered in Aarhus, Albertslund and Kongens Lyngby. The notices do not state where the candidates completed their legal training, which firms they will join, or the date from which they may practise.

One authorisation placed on deposit

The notice for Mads Strandberg Pedersen is the only one of the five carrying an additional line: “Beskikkelsen er deponeret i Civilstyrelsen.” The appointment is therefore recorded as deposited with Civilstyrelsen, the state agency that administers deposited authorisations. The gazette does not give a reason for the deposit, nor does it indicate whether or when the lawyer intends to take up active practice.

The same edition carried seven further notices of existing appointments being deposited with Civilstyrelsen, six of which specify an effective date:

A steady autumn flow of appointments

The five decisions of 20 October continue a regular sequence of ministerial appointments published through the autumn. Since 25 August 2026, Statstidende has carried 48 notices of appointment as advokat, including 20 on 8 September alone and five on 16 October recording decisions taken on 14 October. The pattern is one of small, frequent batches rather than periodic mass appointments, with each candidate announced separately and identified only by name, degree and town.

The deposit notices follow the same rhythm. The 22 October edition alone accounted for seven of the 60 deposit notices published since late August, and the effective dates cluster around the turn of the month, with four of the six dated notices taking effect on 1 November 2026.

For clients, in-house counsel and law firms checking whether a named adviser holds the protected title, these entries are the authoritative public record: an appointment exists in the gazette only from the date the ministerial decision is announced, and a deposited authorisation signals that the lawyer is not currently practising under it. Firms assembling panels of beskikkede rådgivere should treat the 22 October notices as a net addition of five names to the standing, offset by seven authorisations moved into deposit.
