Cretas submits a macro-farm of 36,000 chickens for public consultation
Por FactBox Admin

The Cretas City Council has opened the public information process regarding the substantial modification of the classified environmental license requested by Granja Avícola Campanals, S.L. to construct an agricultural warehouse intended for the expansion of a poultry farm of 36,000 hens. The municipal decision is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Teruel no. 207, dated October 28, 2026, within the Local Administration section, under announcement number 2026-3113 on page 2.
The announcement details that the file is being processed by the City Council itself and that the projected installation is located in the Piedrafita area, on polygon 3, plot 264, with cadastral reference 44088A003002640000JU. The technical project supporting the request was drafted by Robert Tingle Carreras.
Fifteen days to submit allegations
The period is supported by Article 77.3 of Law 11/2014, of December 4, on Environmental Prevention and Protection of Aragon, the regulation that governs the opening of public information in environmental licensing procedures for classified activities.
- Duration: fifteen calendar days.
- Calculation: from the insertion of the announcement in the Teruel Section of the Official Gazette of Aragon.
- In-person consultation: municipal offices of the Cretas City Council.
- Electronic consultation: municipal electronic office, http://cretas.sedelectronica.es.
- Procedure: submission of observations that interested parties consider relevant.
During this period, any interested party may examine the complete file and formulate the allegations they deem appropriate, both at the municipal offices and through the electronic office enabled for this purpose.
An expansion with its own technical file
The request is not limited to the existing activity: it asks for a substantial modification of the classified environmental license to erect a new agricultural warehouse linked to the expansion of the poultry farm. The figure accompanying the project is 36,000 hens, the volume of birds that supports the classification of the intervention as an expansion of a livestock facility.
The file is submitted for public information precisely because the modification is considered substantial, which obliges the City Council to open the process provided for in Aragonese environmental legislation before ruling on the license.
The livestock weight in Matarraña
Cretas is a municipality in the Matarraña/Matarranya region, a territory where agricultural and livestock activity shares space with a low-density rural environment and a relevant tourism and landscape sector. The installation of large-capacity farms on rustic land, such as the one projected in the Piedrafita plot, usually generates neighborhood debate due to its impact on the landscape, vehicle traffic, and waste management.
The announcement does not detail the number of animals already existing on the farm, nor the construction execution schedule, nor the planned investment; these data must be consulted in the file deposited at the Town Hall.
Public consultation and next steps
Once the period of fifteen calendar days has passed, the Cretas City Council must resolve the file by assessing the allegations presented. Publication in the official bulletin is the formal channel that activates the right of participation for neighbors, associations, and any person affected by the activity.
The relevance of the news is twofold: it establishes in the administrative calendar the actual deadline that neighbors have to intervene and documents, with figures and cadastral reference, the sizing of a facility for 36,000 hens within the municipal boundary.
