Cox convoca la plaza de juez de paz sustituto: 15 días hábiles

The Cox City Council has declared the position of substitute justice of the peace for the municipality vacant and has opened the period for receiving applications. The call is formalized through an electronically signed edict published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Alicante (BOP) number 209, dated November 3, 2026, within section III, Local Administration, under the official reference 2026_008307.

The edict is based on article 5.1 of Regulation 3/1995, of June 7, of the Justices of the Peace, approved by the General Council of the Judiciary, a regulation that governs the filling of these positions in municipalities where there is no court of first instance and instruction. The Council confirms that the vacancy for substitute justice of the peace has occurred and, consequently, informs all interested parties that they may apply for the position.

Justices of the peace are the first level of the Administration of Justice in municipalities and assume competencies in civil matters, civil registry, and judicial assistance. The substitute position covers absences, vacancies, or incompatibilities of the holder, thus ensuring the continuity of the service in the municipality.

The same provincial gazette published other similar calls this autumn with different deadlines: the Campo de Mirra City Council opened an equivalent procedure in October 2026, although with a deadline of ten business days (reference 2026_007574).

Requirements that applicants must prove

Interested parties must meet and prove the following conditions:

  • Hold Spanish nationality.
  • Be of legal age.
  • Commit to taking an oath or promise at the time of taking office.
  • Not be subject to any of the causes of incapacity provided for in article 303 of the Organic Law of the Judiciary.

The application must be a general request stating the personal details of the applicant, accompanied by a photocopy of the National Identity Document (DNI).

Where and how to submit the application

Submission can be carried out through two channels:

  • The electronic office of the Cox City Council, as the preferred channel.
  • Any of the procedures provided for in article 16.4 of Law 39/2015, of October 1, on the Common Administrative Procedure of Public Administrations, which includes the general electronic registry and registry assistance offices.

The deadline is 15 business days starting from the day following the publication of the announcement in the BOP of Alicante. With the publication on November 3, 2026, the count begins on November 4 and, according to the labor calendar and barring any unforeseen local holiday, would conclude on November 24, 2026.

A local appointment in a small municipality

The edict does not detail the subsequent selection procedure nor the remuneration scheme for the position, matters which are resolved in accordance with state regulations on justices of the peace and the agreements adopted by the municipal plenary. Nor does it identify the person who held the office until now or the specific causes of the vacancy.

The call for applications arrives after the summer and with the judicial calendar in full activity, a time when the lack of a substitute forces the reorganization of on-call duties and substitutions in the corresponding judicial district.
