Coria del Río incentivizes the relinquishment of niches at the San Lucas cemetery
Por FactBox Admin

The Coria del Río City Council is processing two new economic incentive files aimed at holders of funeral rights for niches at the San Lucas Municipal Cemetery who voluntarily waive them in favor of the Council. In both cases, the circumstance exists that the holder of the right has passed away. The announcement is signed by the mayor-president, Modesto González Márquez, and is published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Seville No. 197, dated October 9, 2026, in the Local Administration section (official reference: BOP-SE-2026-197006).
The framework: reward or compensation for waiver
The applicable regime is not new. The Coria del Río City Council established it through an amendment to the Regulatory Ordinance of the municipal cemetery fee, published in the Official Gazette of the Province of Seville No. 162, dated August 25, 2025. The regulation provides for a regime of economic incentives, in the form of a reward and/or compensation, in favor of those holders of funeral rights for niches in the Municipal Cemetery who, voluntarily and expressly, waive said rights in favor of the City Council.
The files now listed are processed at the request of a party and refer exclusively to cases in which the holder has passed away, which necessitates opening an information process so that those who can prove their status as interested parties may appear.
The two files in process
- 2026/CME_01/000010: niches No. 77 and 78 of San Isidro Street, whose deceased holder is Mr. Diego Izquierdo Martín.
- 2026/CME_01/000016: niche No. 317 of Santa Rita Street, whose deceased holder is Ms. Antonia Gómez Bernal.
Both funeral rights are located in the San Lucas Municipal Cemetery of Coria del Río.
Ten business days to appear
Those who consider themselves interested parties in any of the listed files may appear by means of a written request, accompanied by documentation proving their status as an interested party, submitted to the General Registry of the Coria del Río City Council. The deadline is ten business days, calculated from the day following the publication of the announcement in the Official Gazette of the Province of Seville.
The file can be consulted at the City Council itself, located at Cervantes Street, No. 69, in Coria del Río.
A procedure that already totals five files
This announcement is not the first. On September 28, 2026, the Official Gazette of the Province of Seville No. 188 published an announcement identical in wording (official reference: BOP-SE-2026-188011), with three files of deceased holders:
- 2026/CME_01/000009: niche no. 16 of Corazón de Jesús street, holder Mr. Miguel Caballero Liébanes.
- 2026/CME_01/000019: niche no. 423 of San Isidro street, holder Ms. Eugenia Padilla Ruiz.
- 2026/CME_01/000021: niches no. 111 of San Cristóbal street and no. 238 of Nuestra Señora de los Dolores street, holder Mr. Antonio López Romero.
With the two cases now published, the City Council of Coria del Río has accumulated five files of this type in less than two weeks, all of them referring to the San Lucas Municipal Cemetery.
The relevance of these announcements is twofold. For residents, it marks the exact deadline—ten business days—to claim funeral rights whose holders have passed away and which, otherwise, could remain without an identified successor before the City Council. For the Council, it confirms the effective implementation of the rewards and compensation regime approved in 2025, a route that seeks to recover the availability of niches in the municipal cemetery through voluntary and financially compensated waivers.
