Por FactBox Admin

The Plenary Session of the Regulatory Council of the Protected Designation of Origin “Chirimoya de la Costa Tropical de Granada-Málaga” has called for elections to renew its Plenary, a key process for the agri-food sector of the provinces of Granada and Málaga. The call, adopted in an ordinary session on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, is published by edict in the Official Gazette of the Province of Granada number 175, dated Thursday, September 10, 2026, with reference BOP-GRA-2026-175024.
The process is governed by Law 2/2011, of March 25, on Agri-food and Fisheries Quality of Andalusia, and by Decree 17/2016, of January 19, of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the Regional Government of Andalusia, which regulates the electoral procedure of the Regulatory Councils of the quality designations of Andalusia. The edict, signed in Almuñécar on September 1, 2026, by the acting president, Mr. Antonio Rodríguez Antequera, establishes the full calendar of the process.
Electoral Calendar and Electoral Board
In accordance with Decree 17/2016, an Electoral Board of the Protected Designation of Origin will be constituted, based at the Regulatory Council itself, which will meet for the first time no later than eleven business days from the publication of the agreement in the provincial gazette. The key deadlines of the process are:
- Electoral Board Members: applications during the three business days following publication in the BOP.
- Provisional electoral lists: publication within ten business days from the publication of the agreement, displayed to the public for ten business days.
- Candidacies: submission to the Electoral Board within the four business days following the proclamation of the final lists.
- Voting: to be held 43 business days after the call in the official gazette.
Census and Display Locations
The provisional electoral lists will be displayed in all City Councils of the Production Zone of the Designation of Origin, as well as in the Regulatory Council and in the Territorial Delegations of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the provinces of Granada and Málaga, respecting Organic Law 15/1999 on the Protection of Personal Data. Those registered in the records of the Regulatory Council who are not up to date with their financial obligations will be excluded from the census.
The voting will be governed entirely by the provisions of Decree 17/2016, and the same models of booths and ballot boxes enabled by the City Councils in the previous general elections will be used, with envelopes and ballots conforming to the regulation.
Constitution of the new Plenary
Once the members have been proclaimed, the Plenary session for the constitution of the new Regulatory Council will be held before November 30, 2026. In that same session, the Plenary Council will proceed to the election and proposal of the individuals who will hold the Presidency and the Vice-Presidency, a position that will be communicated to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries, Water and Rural Development of the Regional Government of Andalusia.
The agreements will be made public through their publication on the Regulatory Council’s notice board, as well as in the Official Gazettes of the provinces of Granada and Málaga.
The renewal of the Plenary of the Regulatory Council is decisive for the management and promotion of the PDO Chirimoya de la Costa Tropical, one of the most relevant agri-food hallmarks of the Andalusian coast, whose control and certification depend on this body. The results of the ballot will mark the strategy of the sector in the coming years.
