National Wage Council calls for hearing on domestic work

The National Wages Council of Costa Rica has called for a public hearing to gather the opinions of employers, workers, and the government regarding the occupational category of Domestic Work, a process that directly affects the wage setting for thousands of home workers in the country. The call was published in La Gaceta No. 171, on Thursday, September 10, 2026, on page 7, under the official reference IN202601125615.
The hearing will be held in three separate sessions, one for each convened sector, all starting at 4:25 p.m.:
- Workers: October 5, 2026.
- Employers: November 2, 2026.
- Government: November 9, 2026.
Participation and contact
The National Wages Council invites employers, workers, and their respective representative organizations to participate, with the aim of hearing their authorized opinions on the occupational category of Domestic Work. Relevance of the process
The occupational category of Domestic Work groups together people who provide care services and household chores, a collective that has been historically vulnerable in terms of labor and wage protection.
