The Ministry of Culture grants nearly 99,000 euros to normalize Asturian in the media

The Ministry of Culture, Language Policy and Sport of the Principality of Asturias has published Resolution of 5 August 2026, granting subsidies to media outlets for the social normalisation of Asturian and Galician-Asturian or Eonaviego. The agreement, registered under reference Code 2026-06706, appears in the Official Gazette of the Principality of Asturias (BOPA) No. 159, corresponding to 18 August 2026, and benefits 12 projects submitted by eight publishing and media companies.

Regulatory framework and origin of the call

The call was approved by Resolution of 7 January 2026 of the same ministry, with an authorised credit of €110,000 charged to the General Budgets of the Principality of Asturias for 2026. The extract was published in BOPA No. 12, of 20 January 2026, and interested parties had a period of twenty working days to submit applications, which ended on 17 February 2026.

Fourteen applications were submitted corresponding to projects from seven entities. After the correction procedures and the evaluation by the Assessment Committee, appointed by Resolution of 12 June 2026, the matter was resolved on 5 August.

Beneficiaries and subsidised projects

The total amount granted amounts to €98,661.14, distributed among the following projects:

• Personas Comunicación y Publicidad, S. L. — Integration of the Asturian language into the daily life of the digital newspaper miGijón and miOviedo: €10,506.68
• El Comercio, S. A. — Alitar Asturies Web: €9,386.78
• Cuatro Gotes Producciones, S. L. — Xixón al día: €8,528.87
• Cuatro Gotes Producciones, S. L. — Viaxast Magazine: €8,336.92
• Editorial de Prensa Asturiana, S. A. U. — Escolinos: €7,096.95
• Ventura y El Faro, S. L. — Pages in Asturian in El Faro de Carreño and Gozón: €4,506.00

Refusals and withdrawals

Two applications did not receive a grant. Cuatro Gotes Producciones, S. L. saw its project Formientu.com denied for not reaching the minimum score of 51 points required in section 7.2 of the call for applications. For its part, Prensa Digital Norte, S. L. was declared to have withdrawn from the project Raigañu y Camín (AYUD/2026/18684) for not providing the required documentation within the correction period; the withdrawal was formalized by resolution of 29 June 2026.

Obligations of beneficiaries and deadlines

Beneficiaries are obliged to provide documentary justification of the completion of the project and all expenses of the approved budget before 10 November 2026. Justification shall be made through the itemized account system. For projects subsidized with an amount of less than €6,010, payment shall be made within 15 business days following the publication of the resolution in the BOPA, provided there is no express waiver. All beneficiaries must expressly state that the activity is subsidized by the Department of Culture, Language Policy and Sport in all advertising and dissemination related to the project.

The resolution was signed in Oviedo/Uviéu by the Councillor Ana Vanessa Gutiérrez González and brings the administrative procedure to an end, against which an administrative appeal may be filed before the High Court of Justice of Asturias within two months.
