Maritime-terrestrial concession for the water supply to La Graciosa

The Official Gazette of the Canary Islands number 168, dated August 21, 2026, publishes the announcement granting the Insular Council of Lanzarote the administrative concession of 2,582.32 square meters of the maritime-terrestrial public domain for the project titled “Execution of the maritime section of the drinking water supply to the island of La Graciosa.” The concession, resolved by the Directorate General of Coasts and Management of the Canarian Maritime Space through Resolution No. 427/2026, dated June 10, 2026, is published in the announcements section of the gazette.
The decision is framed within the provisions of Article 152.12 of the General Coasts Regulations, approved by Royal Decree 876/2014, of October 10, which regulates the publicity of concessions on the maritime-terrestrial public domain. The project is developed within the municipal terms of Teguise and Haría, on the islands of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and constitutes an essential infrastructure to guarantee the supply of drinking water to the eighth inhabited island of the archipelago.
Characteristics of the concession
The administrative concession granted to the Insular Council of Lanzarote includes the following elements:
- Holder: Insular Council of Lanzarote.
- Purpose: execution of the maritime section of the drinking water supply to the island of La Graciosa.
- Area: 2,582.32 square meters of the maritime-terrestrial public domain.
- Term: thirty (30) years, extendable for periods of ten (10) years, up to a maximum of fifty (50).
- Fee: exempt.
Affected boundaries
The occupation is situated on two boundaries approved by respective ministerial orders:
- DL-65-LP, approved by Ministerial Order of January 29, 1987, on the island of La Graciosa.
- DES01/08/35/0006, approved by Ministerial Order of November 5, 2009, on the island of Lanzarote.
Processing and signature
The announcement, dated in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on August 6, 2026, is signed by the Director General of Coasts and Management of the Canarian Maritime Space, Antonio Manuel Acosta Felipe. The publication is carried out in compliance with the aforementioned article of the General Coasts Regulations, publicizing the resolution adopted on June 10.
The concession represents a decisive step for the island of La Graciosa, whose population and activity depend on a stable and regular water supply. As the ownership rests with the Insular Council of Lanzarote, the infrastructure will remain under insular public management, guaranteeing the essential supply service to the residents and visitors of the island over a horizon of up to fifty years.
