Por FactBox Admin

Food retail establishments in the province of Zamora will be able to open their doors on Sunday, September 20, 2026, a date set as an opening holiday for the sector. The decision, adopted by the Joint Committee of the food retail collective bargaining agreement, has been published in Official Bulletin of the Province of Zamora number 93, of August 12, 2026, through a resolution of the Territorial Labour Office of Zamora.

The official announcement is Resolution of August 7, 2026, signed by the head of the Territorial Labour Office of Zamora, María L. Villar Rodríguez, attached to the Territorial Delegation of the Junta of Castilla y León in Zamora. The resolution orders the registration and publication of the agreement of the Joint Committee, signed on August 6, 2026, which makes use of the authority provided for in Article 7 of the agreement to choose one of the Sundays or holidays on which food retail establishments may open during the year 2026.

The procedure is based on Royal Decree 713/2010, of May 28, on the registration and deposit of collective bargaining agreements and collective labour agreements; on Royal Decree 831/1995, of May 30, on the transfer of functions and services of the State Administration to the Community of Castilla y León in labour matters; and on Order PRE/813/2022, of July 1, which defines the functions of the Territorial Labour Offices.

An agreement negotiated between employers and trade unions

The Joint Committee met on August 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., at the headquarters of CEOE-CEPYME Zamora, at Plaza de Alemania number 1 in the capital. The minutes list as attendees the representatives of the three signatory organisations:

  • The employer side, CEOE-CEPYME Zamora (Confederation of Zamoran Business Organisations).
  • CC.OO. (Comisiones Obreras / Workers’ Commissions).
  • U.G.T. (Unión General de Trabajadores / General Union of Workers).

During the meeting, the employer representation informed the trade union side of the setting of Sunday, September 20, 2026 as the opening holiday, and the Committee delegated to D. J. M. E. H., of CEOE-CEPYME Zamora, the carrying out of the registration and deposit procedures by electronic means of the agreement with the Junta of Castilla y León.

Registration and publication in the bulletin

The resolution provides for two actions: firstly, the registration of the agreement in the registry of collective bargaining agreements and collective labour agreements operating through electronic means of the Territorial Office, with notification to the Joint Committee; and, secondly, its publication in the Official Bulletin of the Province of Zamora. The agreement is identified with code 49000405011981 and locator CP_PG52BX34, while the announcement appears on pages 2 and 3 of issue number 93 with reference R-202601967.

Opening calendar for the sector

The choice of September 20 responds to the mechanism provided for in the collective bargaining agreement for the food retail sector, which allows the annual setting of Sundays or holidays on which food establishments may open. With this agreement, approved by consensus between the employers’ association and the sector’s main unions, businesses and consumers in the province have a specific date on the 2026 opening calendar.

Publication in the official bulletin gives the agreement legal effect and makes it applicable to all establishments in the sector in the province. For consumers in Zamora, Sunday, September 20 becomes a day on which they can do their food shopping normally.
