Comercio esgota as axudas para mercados excelentes e prazas de abastos

The General Directorate of Trade and Consumption has declared the available credit exhausted for the grants to Galician councils intended to promote a network of excellent markets and to revitalize supply markets. The decision was made public through the Resolution of October 1, 2026, published in the Official Gazette of Galicia (DOG) no. 194, of October 13, 2026, in section III, Other provisions. The call, processed as an anticipated expenditure file with procedure code IN223A, distributed 2,285,000.00 euros among councils, associations, and vendor cooperatives.

The Order of January 5, 2026, published in DOG no. 17, of January 27, established the regulatory bases for the granting, under a non-competitive regime, of subsidies for the promotion of a network of excellent markets in Galicia and the dynamization and revitalization of supply markets, and called for grants for the year 2026. The total credit amounted to 2,285,000.00 euros, distributed between the 2026 annuity (1,285,000.00 euros) and the 2027 annuity (1,000,000.00 euros).

Article 2.2 of the call order establishes that applications will be resolved according to their temporal priority until the credit is exhausted, which will be subject to the corresponding publicity. To determine this order, the date and time of submission of the application at the electronic headquarters of the Xunta de Galicia are taken into account; if the application requires an amendment, the date of the complete documentation is considered, and if a voluntary improvement is submitted, the date of the improvement.

The initial distribution among councils, associations, and cooperatives

The original distribution of the credit by budgetary applications and beneficiary entities was as follows:

  • Councils (application 14.06.751A.761.10): 1,000,000.00 euros in 2026 and 1,000,000.00 euros in 2027, for a total of 2,000,000.00 euros.
  • Federations of supply market associations: 40,000.00 euros.
  • Supply market associations (application 14.06.751A.481.10): 222,600.00 euros.
  • Other associations: 222,600.00 euros.
  • Cooperatives of supply market vendors (application 14.06.751A.470.10): 22,400.00 euros.

The total amounted to 1,285,000.00 euros for 2026 and 1,000,000.00 euros for 2027, totaling the 2,285,000.00 euros of the call.

The August expansion to meet the demand of the councils

The demand from local entities exceeded the credit initially assigned to their specific item, while in the application destined for federations and associations, there was remaining and definitive credit. To cover as many applications as possible, the Order of August 12, 2026, published in DOG no. 156, of August 19, expanded and redistributed the authorized budget.

The regulation transferred 158,109.40 euros from the federations and associations application (14.06.751A.481.10) to that of city councils (14.06.751A.761.10) and added an extension of 73,064.74 euros. The final credit for 2026 was thus:

  • Cooperatives (14.06.751A.470.10): 22,400.00 euros.
  • Associations and federations (14.06.751A.481.10): 104,490.60 euros.
  • City councils (14.06.751A.761.10): 1,231,174.14 euros.
  • Total: 1,358,064.74 euros.

The order signed by the counselor José González Vázquez entered into force the day following its publication.

The last applications admitted before exhaustion

After reviewing the applications according to temporal priority, the last ones that could be granted to Galician city councils before the credit was exhausted, based on the date and time of correct submission of the documentation in the electronic office, were:

  • 2026 Annuity: the application submitted on March 2, 2026, at 1:19 p.m., with file number IN223A-2025-00000031-00.
  • 2027 Annuity: the application submitted on February 11, 2026, at 10:12 a.m., with file number IN223A-2026-00000023-00.

Publicity of grants and transparency

In accordance with article 15 of Law 9/2007, of June 13, on subsidies in Galicia, and article 17 of Law 1/2016, of January 18, on transparency and good governance, the resolution orders the publication in the DOG of the grants awarded charged to applications 14.06.751A.761.10, 14.06.751A.481.10 and 14.06.751A.470.10, and project code 2026 00053. The grant lists, indicating the call, the beneficiary entity, and the amount granted, can be consulted at the links published in the resolution itself. The document bears the official reference CVE-DOG: pskw9ne2-6zv0-u1b7-8v02-kpug9fvpt608 and is signed by the general director of Trade and Consumption, Gabriel Alén Castro.

The exhaustion of the credit closes the way for new grants in this call for city councils, which are the main financiers of the modernization of municipal markets and supply squares. For local governments that were left out of the distribution, the improvement of commercial facilities must wait for a future call or other sources of financing.
